The bottom line is that we have some quality players, unfortunately a good number of these can't be relied on to be available for enough of the season.

FFP restricts us from going out and replacing these players while still under contract, hence the balancing act this season and predicament we have.

In a nutshell....we need to concentrate on getting the most out of previously injured players and improving others, including development squad players. Then, if we are a bit luckier with injuries, we should have enough to mount a serious promotion challenge. There will probably be enough slack in the kitty to target a couple of target areas like Left Back and a winger to replace Wallace. But forget about selling players for real money who are deemed surplus to requirements and who are on £30k+ a week contracts. It 'aint gonna happen.

So in a nut shell we are all paying for option 1 of continued investment in the playing squad but getting option 2 a team full of free agents and youth team players.

Next thing the club will be telling us the new shirts are not available, but they have a £99 shirt which the players wear that we can buy in the meantime.............. wait a minute garymegson

Sadly you are probably right. Maybe I wouldn’t put it all on the previous managers toes, it obviously was part of the clubs misguided “quick fix” plan

Thats not to say he didn’t have a role to play though

Paying over the top wages, to over the hill players, was a reckless policy, especially when it came at the expense of neglecting  our finest young talent

Our ridiculous transfer policy was down to one man , the

chairman.

He owns the club and he decides how to spend his money.

Hopefully he has learnt a lesson, fingers crossed.

It's a cynical way of looking at it but yes, that's correct. However, it's not a lack of ambition why DC won't be investing big this year is it? The will is there and the cash is there but FFP says no. I've just been reading more about the Villa sh itstorm and it seems there's a lot more pain to come for them. I don't want to go their again.

Seems like we're just going to wait till the end of the window to bring in a few loanees but basically go with the same squad, although refreshed with fitness and quite a few youngsters. Doesn't sound good the way it's dragging on in regards to Fred and Rhodes but I'm still hoping we'll get Fred back permanently. Not as productive a window as I was hoping for but it's understandable and in some ways it could work in our favour, if there isn't too many changes player wise? Dependant upon that we hopefully don't suffer as many injuries as last season, plus lower expectations/pressures could be a good thing too?

Looks like our dithering in the transfer market could well cost us the signing of Venancio as his club have accepted a 6 figure sum ala less than £1m with another Portuguese team.

It's not dithering if you don't have the finances

They are supposedly asking for 1.8 million yet a figure of less than a million has been agreed, which could actually be much lower in reality. I think it shows we were right to hold off if we can match the offer on the table, after all Fred wants to come to us or so he says. Hardly dithering, just hard bargaining and about time too!
