You might be right - and why it might explain the assistant taking some time to put his flag up. Maybe we shouldn't show a goal replay until half time/full time!!

Mariner's assistant made the call, Mariner initially gave the goal didn't he?

Marriner knew that he didn't touch the ball but he didn't know it was offside. The assistant thought Hooper touched the ball so thought Fernando was onside. When Marriner told him Hooper didn't touch it the assistant gave offside as he knew Fernando was offside when Westwood kicked It.

Interesting stuff. Where did you hear/read this - not seen Marriner explain the situation before. Would most certainly help fans if referee's gave explanations to big decisions after each game.

Opened this thread praying he had been suspended from football for ever. You can imagine how disappointed I am now. I have never seen this clown have a decent game. He will give udders every decision to show he won't be swayed by a big intimidating crowd.  Expect an angry night now

Why can't referees stick to the same division each season.

 

Premiership refs for the premiership.

 

Championship refs for the championship.

 

I always get the sense that when Premiership refs come down, they want the spotlight.

 

A good ref is one you never talk about.

Not always. Probably the most talked about and famous referee - Pierluigi Collina - is probably the best referee there has ever been.
