Binary Thinking

Dj Mortimer could say in 2000 words what most could say in 2. A waffle bag of the highest order.

I suspect he is either still writing a post on why Mandaric is good, but could get better, or has thrown the towel in once he realised Twitter had turned us all into one line wonders.

You could just have said he was a n@bber and saved yourself 47 words fella ...

I am not sure what the debate is here.

However, I for one am glad to see a decent side and a dignified chairman.

the dark days of discussing Dave Allen, Lee Strafford, fudders and Wednesdayite are thankfully just a memory in our painful past.

the biggest issue we now face are fans expectations. Probably set by a Chairmanship statement.

I am am grateful that we have a team that can play football worth watching.

Our wage bill at an educated guess is around £10m a year. And so far this summer we've spent what £7m? So at the moment as I see it the fans are bankrolling the club.

Chansiri needs to spend another £10-12m on wages and fees this summer or in January (preferably now) in order to justify the ticket prices.

Our wage bill under Mandaric in 2012/13 was £9.5m. It will be FAR higher now.

There are only 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary and those who don’t.

Seriously though, Owlstalk - the internet in general, actually - has a tendency to descend into binary thinking at an impressive pace. Many discussions quickly become a case of 'picking a side' and then defending your stated opinion to the death, making ever more extreme and outlandish claims in an attempt to 'defeat' the other side. Even those who start out with balanced and well-reasoned views can quickly be dragged into the game of point-scoring, and before you know it, all shades of grey are lost.

With most things, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Nuhiu isn't the key to our future success, nor is he a Conference-level cart horse; Bannan isn't the second coming of Claude Makélélé, nor is he a powder-puff lightweight who offers our defence no protection; Chansiri isn't an entirely selfless benefactor whose decisions are beyond question, nor is he a self-serving autocrat who's destroying the traditions of our club.

Embrace the grey, people! (Or don't.)

For me Chansiri needs to spend more each season to justify the price increases and us being one of the most expensive sides in the country to support outside of London. If we spend another 10m on two players to get us promoted then fair enough, but so far this summer we've not been competitive in the transfer market. Ticket sales at current prices should be bringing in approx. £15-20m a season. That is what we the fans are putting into the club. To my eyes Chansiri should be at least doubling that if he is to claim he is an ambitious owner with designs on promotion (or at least putting in as much as possible to avoid falling foul of FFP- which he should be able to get around anyway by sponsoring us/sponsoring the stadium etc). That means we should have £30-40m to play with each year.

Cool made up numbers Bro.

Not a dig, if we assume your estimates on wages and transfer fee's are correct, can you please elaborate on your calculations regarding ticket revenue because I just can't see that the fans are bankrolling the club to a a point where they are generating even half of that expenditure.

Remember some fans just love to have a go at the club they don't need facts and truths to beat the club with when they can just make them up.  So long as they can have a go, feel that they have made an important  contribution to the debate and they can say afterwards that they were right all along.

I miss DJ Mortimer on here. His discussions were everything that I feel about the club now. Not everything's black and white. You don't need to take sides. It's not binary.

A story that darra posted earlier about misuse of the name and badge did hawk back to the bad times. If Allen had done that we wouldn't have the majority of posters defending him like Chansiri has had. It would have been the opposite.

And this is the crux. Chansiri has chucked a few million at players and so we're willing to accept it.

At the same time he's changed the badge, okay, the shirt because he doesn't like stripes, with no promise of a return to our blue and white, and for me, I've purposely stayed out of ticketing threads, but I despise being that club that teams want to boycott, the most expensive team in the league.

I get what Kivo is saying when he talks about tickets, I just think his message is stronger if it isn't repeated so often, and then people just get annoyed with the actual poster. And I'm totally guilty of saying the prices reflect the investment.

Not sure what I'm trying to say here. Bit drunk.

So it should say Binary Drinking I,e. a drink in both hands ....

DJ Mortimer was a brilliant poster and is missed.

He probably got fed up of the constant abuse for posting his opinions that didn't toe the party line

He lurks in the background....

Good news, the contrary old lurker.

We charged over £40 to see a second level football match - there's a fact. We have scrapped our traditional kit - there's a fact.  They are my gripes - and perfectly reasonable fact based gripes.

Badge, shop, boxes, lack of signings etc don't bother me or I can understand.

I simply don't see why long standing fans/ season ticket holders would want the club to fail or criticise for the sake of it. They generally reflect sincerely held views about a club they love. Disagreeing with you doesn't make us lesser Wednesdayites - just different sorts of football fans.
