New ground v redevelopment ?

Recommended Posts

Yes I was and it was good. However I think those same fans in a new stadium would also have produced a good atmosphere.

Were you a Derby? A cracking atmosphere in a new (ish) bowl type ground that gets slated on here.

Cracking atmosphere cos The Wednesday were there...would have been poo if Scunthorpe was there, stadia does not create atmosphere, fans do.

We have a construction developer as our Chairman. We are surrounded  parkland to the South west and cheap industrial land to the North.

DC should open his development gambit by courting the City Council. There is an opportunity to probe the possibility of a complete commercial development in a popular area that could comfortably eclipse all that has gone before in Sheffield.

I'm not particularly critical of those who want to stay or indeed those who want to go, other than to say both groups of fans seem to lack imagination.

Penistone Road from the Dog track should fork to the right linking up with Herries Road South. Parkside Road should go creating a plaza which could eat into Hillsborough Park. The tram route should loop around the ground and commercial sector, or a new line be constructed through to Chapeltown/High Green area.

To the West Clay Wheels Lane  should be up graded to 'B' status  with a road bridge crossing the Don North of Middlewood serving the purpose of easing congestion at Hillsborough Corner.

The development would include low/medium cost homes which could be offered to local residents. New build at the ground could incorporate Niche commercial enterprises e.g.  Harley Davidson outlet and Museum, which would be a draw in itself.

Environment could be given a real boost, The Don from Hillsborough north is every bit as attractive as the Rivelin nature trail with a bit of thought and care.

For the first time in our entire History we probably have someone at the helm who could make this happen. We can't do it if we get lost in thinking simply about The West Stand or indeed building a Lego Ground down by the Airport site.

Haha good idea let's build that then.

For us to upgrade on Hillsborough would be 150-200million.

Cheaper & better to redevelop

What a load of cobblers. The World Cup plans only cost 20 million and they are less than 10 years old!

You have to cringe. Those "accident banners" looks cheap and nasty (in fact they look absolutely horrendous).

The trees growing out of the East Bank mound, the corrugated metal "cut outs" over the mound of earth, the turnstiles, brickwork, the whole thing is bordering on being condemned.  It's like doing up an old house with mould / a cellar that floods, foundations that are crumbling.  You can just throw good money after bad. How much could be wasted "making do" for the next 10-15 years before someone suddenly decides, you know what, let's build a state-of-the-art 55,000 seat stadium somewhere else. Maybe even near to a motorway or a train station - that might help get people to and from it. Perhaps.

A team (nearly) good enough for the Premiership, a ground that is no longer fit for purpose. The "old lady" has had her day. Poor old bird.

Heard the same. It's a matter of time and the "old guard" accepting it/moving on without causing King Chansiri grief / petitions and protests.  Even West ham have accepted it and are about to have an amazing new ground as their home.  I'm sick of waiting 20 minutes for a pint at half time and missing goals.

Well as I said earlier a mile of motorway cost around £30 million so without any prior knowledge lets guesstimate that changing the road system Changes to the tram route etc would still be around that figure. That's without the planning and probably public consultation that would need to be done. I couldn't se it happening anytime soon. Then add to that the changes to the ground lost revenue through demolishing and closing stands and the costs start to mount up. They are building a road bridge across Lincoln High Street btw. It's causing big traffic problems and has taken best part of a year

If planning permission has been applied for how long is it before it's in the public domain ?.
