If we look at Middlesboroughs recruitment, the year after they failed in the Play Off final.

5.5m on Stuart Downing. JULY

3.6m on Christian Stuani AUGUST

4m on David Nugent AUGUST

Free Transfer Alex Baptiste. JULY

LOAN - Kalas. JULY

LOAN - Fabbrini. JULY

LOAN - Amoriebieta. AUGUST

Obviously spent big again in January, but because we've been through the same process at Wembley, this is what post Wembley recruitment looks like

One thing that people seem to overlook is the impact Matias and Melo may have. They could be like 2 new signings.

Matias now injury free, more familiar with his surroundings, knows what to expect on the pitch and seemed to increase his workrate later in the season.

Carlos spoke of how big a miss Melo would be when he was injured. Suggests he rates him.

Joao obviously now has a season under his belt and will be expected to kick on.

Midfield, LB and CB are still areas we lack in, but we may not actually need as much as we think to challenge.

Last season that recruitment, onto a solid base, pretty much guaranteed them promotion. Of course, there are no real guarantees, but it certainly installed them as favourites. This time around, that level of investment wouldn't have guaranteed them a top two finish. We could spend double that, and we'd still be behind the big boys, Villa, Norwich and Newcastle

Post-Wembley recruitment.. You what? There's no handbook for this. We're not Middlesbrough, our needs will be different. There is no-one to copy. Boils down to whatever it takes for us to get there.

Look at squad hull had they had a stronger team then villa and they only just got up newcastle going to have that many new players could take them a while to gel . Villa need alot cos they was garbage last year

plenty of time, we are only looking for 4 or 5 new players

Agents hold the majority of cards these days and will push for the biggest money.

Signing players is far more protracted than it ever was, patience I am sure all will be sorted.

DC just isn't wealthy enough - he should get some other rich types to come on board then we can set sail HMS wee wee the league and then get hammered every week in the Prem

Ultimately every club will say this for every stage they are trying to reach.

We aren't quite wealthy enough to make the Champions league or we just aren't wealthy enough to compete in League 2. The story is the same!

No, I agree with you, I don't think it's a given that those three teams will finish above us.  I'm purely talking in terms of resources, last season Middlesborough's spending gave them an edge, this season there will be clubs spending that, and more besides

Chansiri said Premier League by 2017 (ie promotion this coming season)...squad as it stands will finish about  8th or 9th.

Only lost one quality player, Lopez. Gained an outstanding player, in Fletcher. How can we be destined for 8th or 9th?

Of course we need a few defenders. But no doubt they are in the pipeline.

I'm still hopeful that we're in there for Hanley. He'll cost a fair bit, but the fact that he hasn't yet moved to Newcastle or Norwich, means we still have a chance Of course it might just be paper talk, and we're not in for him at all. Looks a perfect fit for us though

Well considering we were equally lack lustre in first halves when Bannan was central suggests it was more down to Carlos' set up. He commented many times on how much tougher it is to break teams down in the first half when their intensity and discipline is at a high level.

Apart from Preston away, when we're we lacklustre in ANY half with FF Bannan Lee Wallace?

Eh??

are you seriously suggesting we've decided not to strengthen because we've already decided we've no chance of finishing in the top 3?

Yeah that's what I read it as. What a bizarre post. lol

Still confident we will bring a couple of new additions in before the Villa game (we need to). Be nice if it was sooner rather than later. After a great season last year we really should be pushing on to give ourselves an even better chance of getting back to were we belong.

The legacy of Milan and Aldridge was a manual, instructing Mr Chansiri on how to buy a squad of players for a tenner.

Aldridge also left a pack of false moustaches and beards so that you can make some random player from non-league football, look like Steven Fletcher.

Using the savings from Pudil's and Lopez's exit to buy some new heat lamps for the pitch, was also genius. See manual page 64.
