The reasons we are (possibly) going down are varied. Inability to finish opponents off, lack of goals and so on.  But they do all reduce down to a single source of problem - the chairman.

Bazza’s capabilities in this division are not really part of the issue and he was probably our best player yesterday along with Smith and Vaulks.

I’d guess he’s been man of the match this year more than anyone else.

Not keeping Bannan next year will be criminal.

I do agree at his age and he is showing signs of deteriorating (he’s still one of our best players) we need to stop relying on him but that means bringing in better players which we just don’t do.

So if we were well run we’d be bringing in

someone younger and have Bannan as someone who can come on and influence the games.

Chansiri will either keep him as the main man or release him so he doesn’t have to give him a testimonial

100% good enough for the championship, though prediction is if he's not resigned he'll be at Wrexham next season.

Especially if Fletcher remains there, one of his best mates. Think Bannan would be very deflated after all the effort to get us out of League 1 last year not sure if he'll have another go or fancy a last new challenge.

Not sure why he's getting loads of stick tbh.

Thought he did ok yesterday.

At the end of the day, our biggest issue is we are still overly reliant on him.

People need a scapegoat. The overall product hasn't been good enough. The whole squad hasn't. All season. But to discuss the nuances is too much for people. Instead they'll just pick on one or two individuals that they remember making a mistake or two in the game.

Seems that way.

For us, he's a "big" name meaning people will inevitably single out after a poor/indifferent result.

Still go back to the point that we are still massively over reliant on a 34 year old playing in central midfield.

Testament to our poor recruitment.

Pathetically easy isn't it to just use that worn out old soundbite "his legs have gone" as soon as someone over the age of 30 has a disappointing performance? Sometimes, they don't even need that much. Many people ought to have a cord hanging out of their back like one of those old Action Man dolls to completely save themselves the inconvenience of thinking at all. And never mind that he's often one of the most active players we have out there and still takes on more than his share of the responsibility to make things happen.

Exactly.  Case in point being the Stoke goal yesterday.  Probably 5 players could have done better and made decisions. If one of Palmer, Ihiekwe, Vaulks, Beadle and Famewo had done better it's not a goal.

If the club was run well, a player like Bannan would be almost like a bonus at this stage of his career.

Surround him with younger legs (with a bit of talent too) and I honestly think he'd still thrive at this level.

As you say, he's still fit as a fiddle and covers plenty of ground. It's not like his legs have completely gone or something. You just like to see more around him. After all, he's never been the best off the ball has he.

Bannan has been outstanding for years.

But it’s also acceptable to move on in the summer.

I’d accept if he dropped wages and became a bench player however.

We can’t go into next season relaying on him. Some fans just don’t want to allow that for whatever reason.

This 100%

Not sure why others dont' accept it for what it is and still cling on to sentiment ...

The dog being the club?

While Bannan moves on, to end his career with bigger & better things (probably a top 6 Championship club)

And this right here sums up the absolute lunacy on this site.

If anyone actually believes Bannan is going to bigger and better things and on to a top 6 EFL club they need some serious psychiactric assistance.

Someone said he'd get in some prem teams 🤣 sure prem teams are desperately looking at signing a player with 1 goal and 1 assist in the  championship

I already know of a top 6 Championship club interested in Bannan. In their current situation, transfer plans are still somewhat up in the air though

On a totally unrelated note ...

A top 6 Championship club made an offer for Marvin Johnson, in January

I don't think he should be captain, but that is a different discussion.  There's a reason why on every televised game we have the pundits and commentators rave about him, and that is because he is a very good player.  He doesn't look any less mobile to me now than when he joined, so there is no issue there, and his quality on the ball is undeniable.  Time is catching up with him, and at some point the Championship will become too much, but if we were to go down he'd be head and shoulders above every other League 1 midfielder, just as he was last season.
