Would be great if they won it (they won't).

But yeah, you'd then have a few months of the zealots at either end of the spectrum losing their minds off the back of it

I think they might do it

they’re playing at half their best right now, and are keeping clean sheets

US or England winners

Always good to have international comps down this neck of the woods.

Aussies tipped to do very well.

Ireland dark horses, what a qualifying story they had.

P2 - L2

Out after 2 games

Who the hell had them as "dark horses"?

They were never gonna be anywhere near the running

Infantino has apparently knocked it on the head and left after a week.

Some Aussies seem to think it's funny that stadiums have empty seats.

Some kicking off that FIFA are referring to Brisbane as a different name.

Dear FIFA, don't bother with this part of the world for a while.

If they win the World Cup before the lads were never gonna hear the end of it

luckily I’m the kind of person who revels in that kind of thing and will think it’s hilarious

The euros was well received when we won it, not sure why it would be any different with a world cup

The Aussies who think it's funny are the Murdoch press who have an interest in this code of football not succeeding in Australia.

The names thing is Australia finally catching up with what has happened in NZ for a long time and using indigenous place names alongside the settler ones.

Oh yeah I'm totally aware of the reasons for both.

Thank goodness one of the hosts' understands that in order to win a game and go through, you have to attack as well as scoring a goal.

Didn't think Australians would celebrate a 0-0.

You have to remember that NZ are just straight up poor compared to many of the sides competing.

I did notice that they have the same issue as the mens team, as the Phoenix and as every side I've ever seen on a park around NZ; all very well drilled with nice patterns to move up the pitch and solid when defending in banks of four, but absolutely zero cutting edge or ability to play off the cuff.

That’s not offside.

I’m all for verbally explaining the decision too, good step forward but, simply saying ‘number 2 was offside’ isn’t an explanation.

Is she offside because she was deemed to be obscuring the ‘keepers view of the initial cross? Context is needed:

Mary Earps is probably the best female GK in the world. I don't think I've seen her make a mistake. She's saved two decent efforts again today, only beaten by a pen.

Great performance this, with a bit of a rotated squad and different formation too. Gives Wiegman something to think about next game.
