Barcelona - Looking dead out here

Depends what funds he will have available.

He started a little shakey but the Auba signing has revived them.

He fell off at Arsenal but he's a quality player and a massive improvement from the likes of De Jong and Braithwaite.

Dembele has started showing his quality recently too, but he's out of contract at the end of the season and refused to sign a new deal. This little revival might make him change his mind, but he'll need to take a pay cut I think. Not many teams will be willing to give him what Barca currently pay him anyway.

They might be able to keep hold of Dembele if they ship out players like Coutinho, Lenglet, Umtiti, Braithwaite, Luuk De Jong etc.

It’ll be interesting to see how they manage to rebuild their squad with quite a few key players well in to their 30s now, Pedri and Gavi both look like they could be superstars but are there others coming through of a similar standard, or will they have to spend? The team Xavi played in was the best team I’ve ever seen at their peak, I know Barca as a club have sold their soul since then but I’d still like to see him be successful there

Dembele is such a fragile player, but he's that good they haven't really tried to cash in.

He's out injured that often that you can't really build a team based on his talent, it's more a bonus if he plays.

The signings of Auba and Torres have really improved them,  and took the pressure of Fati, Gavi and Pedri to keep Barcelona going.

They are on their way back , definitely.

When you think about it, they're too big of a club/institution to stay down for long.

Top players, managers will always want to go and be at Barcelona.

Could say the same about Man Utd, but they seem to have got every decision wrong since Fergie left.

Managers have come and gone.

Players tipped to be the next big thing have struggled - Depay, Martial, Rashford, Pogba etc.

I do have a soft spot for Barca though, prefer them to Real Madrid for example. So hopefully Xavi gets it right. Would be good to see him do well there.

As big as Man U are, I think Barca and Real occupy their own little tier tbh.

For me, they are the ultimate glamour clubs and plenty of players (particularly foreign) will always want to play for them if the opportunity present itself.

I'd also suggest that Barca, despite all the f*ck ups of the previous seasons, have some sort of plan and knowledge of how to get back to where they once were.

You may or may not remember how bad they were in the very early 00s. Funnily enough, it was Laporte who came in 2003 as President and oversaw the start of their initial renaissance under Rijkard.

Messi goes back there in the summer, watch this space. Xavi as manager, Dani Alves brought back in, Messi will be back in the summer. Imagine him, Auba and Ferran Torres as the front 3, with Dembele/Depay/Fati in reserve. Pedri, Gavi, Busquets and Frankie De Jong to pick from in the middle 3. Glorious days to come

If they're not able to pay top dollar like they once were, that "pull" becomes irrelevant.

Its why they are so desperate for the breakaway league.

Auba took a 200k a week paycut to join Barca from Arsenal.

The pull to play for them and the status is bigger than the financial rewards
