areNOTwhatTHEYseem
The return to form of some of our forgotten men since Luhukay took over has been widely noted, but the way that Lucas João has discovered his shooting boots under his guidance surely warrants a bit more attention. He's averaging a goal for every 149 minutes of Championship football since Luhukay arrived in January and is scoring at an even more impressive rate of a goal every 91 minutes so far this season. When you consider that this is a striker who didn't score at all in his ten league appearances for us in 2016/17 and had averaged a goal every 305 minutes in his debut season for us, the turnaround in his form under Luhukay has been tremendous. I'm not sure what happened to make him fall out of favour under Carvalhal, but to think that he only played João for a grand total of 138 paltry minutes of league football before he lost his job last December is quite baffling, really. If the manager's recent comments are anything to go by, he seems to believe there may be even more to come from João: "If he wants to be in the starting line-up, he has to work very hard in training day after day. It's as simple as that." But for now, all credit must go to both Luhukay and João himself for the way things are turning around for him at Wednesday, and long may it continue.

theowlsman
It’s not rocket science. He’s fitter, stronger, more familiar with the demands of English football, and getting the opportunities.
Drewswfc
Joao as all the attributes to be a top quality striker. Possibly even international class

When he’s used as a bit part player he looks mardy and disinterested. Play him consistently he can be unplayable. Our aray of attacking options might be his down fall here. This is the thing, he appears to be a confidence player, get his confidence up and he plays well when he's low he doesn't.
agentwalker
for me its something called effort. when you see him actually put the required effort in things happen, same with big Dave. When you see that effort drop that's when they end up on the bench for x number of games. Edited October 13, 2018 by agentwalker

Popular Post sonofbert2
He struggled badly after losing his tooth and was sent by Jos on his arrival for therapy and finally diagnosed with PTTD - Post Dramatic Tooth Disorder. Following a bout of CBT, and the introduction of Matias as his Dental Mentor, he has started to shine, score and more importantly smile again and Matias has also improved through helping out his fellow countryman. 2

Possibly even international class All the physical and technical attributes, but perhaps not all the mental attributes? Maybe that's too harsh, but Luhukay;s comments about needing to push himself in training suggest he's not quite developed that determination that all the very best players need. Something's certainly clicking for him under Luhukay, though - hopefully he can be the manager to help him realise his potential.

The more regularly he’s played and the more he’s been trusted, the better he’s performed. Personally Id be very interested to see him given a run as the central striker with FF and Matias or Reach alongside.
