whats everyones thoughts on liam palmer i think hes ok but needs imorovement

I think he looks like what he is - a player who came up through the ranks as a CM, found himself down the pecking order so reinvented himself in another position where he is competent but nowhere near the standard we need.

Crikey. A few threads popping up today in my feed about some of our bench players.

 

Considering right back isn't he best position. I think he'ss provided adequate back up to Hunt.

Very little of it deserved.

Because he's homegrown, we REALLY wanted to like him, but the reality of it is, I'm not sure I ever really remember him being that great. He had age on his side, and was homegrown.... thats all. 

Controversial, but I feel this is whats been happening with Wildsmith.... although granted, he still has time left to develop, but that window has closed for Palmer.

a really good back up right back. When he first came through he looked promising in midfield. but that was a long time ago. but could probably cover there if we had a huge crisis.

Honestly not good enough, positionally he is terrible and doesn't have enough heart when he plays. It's a no from me.

Has his good days, has his bad days but overall he's a very competent 2nd choice right back,  can fill in elsewhere, and is a good squad player to have. Gets some ridiculous stick on here.

Another player that gets too little game time to be judged too harshly.

 

Can't expect him to be at his best in the odd cameo.

 

Good enough to have been a mainstay when we first broke the clean sheet record wasn't he?

 

Who do you think we should have to sit in the bench? We're never going to have 20 odd top Championship players are we?!!!

Liam is a great kid with a fantastic attitude, great engine, strong in the tackle and a good football brain. He is s box2box centre midfielder and it's a testament to his talent that he has been able to fill in so well at right back.....

I think many central midfielders that are shoe horned in to the right back position would struggle, and struggle more when not given regular game time ..

He's an ok replacement if Hunt is injured but nothing more. The fact he couldn't grasp the right back position when Hunt was gash during the first half of last season probably tells us what level he's at.

 

With the game in front of him he's a better defender than Hunt but once the balls gone past him he totally switches off, as he does when crosses are coming in from the opposite wedding.

I like him, he is positionally more defensive than Hunt, but he is woeful going forwards, for the way we play, he doesnt really add enough going forwards, but id take him defensively any day.
