I don't agree re. Stephens.  Kayal is their defensive midfielder.

Stephens was given licence to attack last season and seemed to love it.  Scored 7 and was their attacking driving force, particularly until Knockaert arrived.

Always considered him more defensive. Seemed to play that role whenever I saw them play.

Wolves' big-money bid for Derby striker Chris Martin rejected

Wolves are believed to have had a big-money bid for Derby County striker Chris Martin rejected.

The offer is thought to be £6.5million - but the Rams have instantly knocked it back.

The 27-year-old striker was surprisingly named on the bench for Derby's opening-day draw against Brighton, with former Villa and England man Darren Bent preferred up front.

However Derby are believed to have little interest in selling Scottish international Martin, who has been the club's top scorer for the past three seasons.

New boss Nigel Pearson has overseen very few changes in terms of transfers this summer, with the Rams yet to make a single splash in the transfer market, although a £7m bid for Sheffield Wednesday star Fernando Forestieri was rejected earlier this week.

Wednesday are now said to have targeted both Jeff Hendrick and Tom Ince in an ambitious double swoop.

Aston Villa hoping to complete deal for West Brom defender James Chester

Villa are hoping to complete the signing of James Chester after making their move for the Albion defender.

Boss Roberto Di Matteo has identified the 27-year-old as a key target and the Baggies are understood to have accepted a bid for the Welsh international, who joined them from Hull City last summer in an £8million move.

Villa will now aim to pip Middlesbrough, who have also been in talks over the defender, to the deal.

Chester made just 12 league appearances for Albion last season and only one in his preferred position of centre-back.

Having lost Ciaran Clark to Newcastle, Di Matteo is eager to strengthen a backline which had its weaknesses once more exposed during Wednesday’s 3-1 League Cup defeat at Luton Town.

Afterwards, the Italian acknowledged the need for more reinforcements.

Could Ravel Morrison be the next player to arrive at Villa Park?

The midfielder made just four league appearances for Lazio last season and is strongly linked with a move to the Midlands, where he spent a season on loan with Birmingham in 2012/13.

I think Wolves are going about things completely the wrong way.

We we're sensible in our approach to buying players, quite possibly sticking to a plan left by Mandaric.

Agents stand to gain alot by dealing with Wolves and super agent Jorge Mendes will make sure he gains the most

If Anderson Talisca joins Wolves for 21m, the whole game changes.

You don't have to be a team with Ambition, Champions League goals. You have to be a team with money.

If they sign Talisca, their bids for players like Chris Brown, will unsettle players more than the smoke thrown between Us and Derby.

Nothing stops them from sliding 15m our way for a certain player.

Chester to Villa for a potential 10 million!

West Brom transfer news: Tony Pulis confirms James Chester is being sold to Aston Villa

Albion boss Tony Pulis has confirmed that James Chester is being sold to West Midlands rivals Aston Villa for a profit.

Although the Welsh international still needs to get the results back from his medical, the signing is expected to be announced later today.

Pulis claims the Baggies have made a £2million profit on the 27-year-old defender, who was brought from Hull City last year.

That deal last summer was an £8m in total, but only £6m up front with £2m extra in add-ons for appearances and performance.

However, Chester only made 12 Premier League appearances under Pulis last season and so he failed to trigger the majority of those add-ons.

Albion have sold the Manchester United academy product to Villa for just over £8m up front with add-ons making the fee up to a potential £10m.

Aston Villa are interested in Crystal Palace midfield trio Jordan Mutch, Joe Ledley and Mile Jedinak.

Boss Alan Pardew is looking to offload Mutch and Jedinak, who was replaced as captain by centre-back Scott Dann for the forthcoming Premier League season.

Joe Ledley may prove a tougher task though.
