mike312
I'm sure they know what they're doing but if the level of the pitch is what the tractors are on in the back-ground, those pipes are going to be far under ground aren't they?

modboy
its hard to understand the size of our screen, that OS picture made it look small. Anyhow was at a match last night with a screen and they showed twitter updates all game, guess its the way things are going. Was more interesting than the match though, especially as Freddy Adu didnt get any game time... gutted still https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CF3SpeJUUAAkJfV.jpg

I know, I wasn't going to write it but knowing as little as I do about under soil heating I didn't think putting the pipes that far under ground would thaw the surface. Interesting though. Guest
Wow that is seriously getting higher now! Is that wiring at the bottom of the field??? If so is it the under soil heating or is it irrigation? If it is cable it isn't going to be irrigation unless its supplying pumps

Interesting though. Sorry for being picky - it just made me chuckle! I know next to nothing about how it all works, either - I just assume the people sorting the pitch will do. I'm surprised by how fascinating I'm finding all these videos and pictures of the pitch being dug up and relayed, though. I'd feel a bit sad if we weren't on page 51 of the thread; clearly there's a market for this kind of thing...'Turftalk', anyone!?

Sheffman03
Yeah I thought they'd be a little small for irrigation. Can't wait to see the end result. Clearly these are playing surface adjustment cables so that when we play teams who like a large expansive area to play on, we just reduce the size of the pitch by turning on a large knurled screw somewhere, probably in Stu's office...I expect we have them running across the pitch too, that way we can adjust for both length and width ;)!
