why? Genuine question

Knows SG as previously mentioned, so he could work alongside and SG could go back to his original role

Known within the game, more attractive to players than SG

Did a great job at brentford and set the foundations for were they are now

Decent record, harshly sacked by wigan(who are worse off now)

Knowledge of german and Scandinavian football

think of any better/realistic candidates?

Although he probably has all the right qualifications to become our DOF, I would imagine he still has aspirations to be a manager again. If he is to be appointed, he will presumably be responsible for all football matters, so it'd make sense that he takes the opportunity to watch the existing players.

You're talking as if he'd come in and pick the team though, like dave Jones. No way would SG accept that and why should he?

Good points. Also I don't buy the notion that Gray isn't able to attract players effectively. Biggest puller for players is money.
