FlyingOwl
Can always remember playing United at home and seeing Brian Laws waving his Wednesday scarf round his head when Sodje scored, and running down the touch line like Mourinho when Tudgay got the second. Top bloke - right manager, wrong time.
GY-owl.4
Obviously bursting with information regarding events behind the scenes at Hillsborough from his time there but can't/won't voice them for fear of legal problems. Someone who I'd love to bump into in a pub or something where he might be able to speak more freely about his real experience at SWFC. He reads Owlstalk anyway...............................................................ALL THE TIME! so if you all ask him questions on here.... he might well join up to answer, init. Bluesteel
maybe Jeffers just lost his bottle after the injury. i remember watching us play QPR at Loftus Road in 2010 not long before we were relegated. Jeffers and Michael Gray were on the bench that day, and were kicking a ball about on the pitch at half time; 2 former England players...we were desperately in need of points to avoid the drop. we needed a contribution from Jeffers - perhaps he simply didn't have it to give anymore. The best example of what youre saying was when that cross went in at the kop end vs Palace and Jeffers jumped and performed the technique of heading the ball into the top corner, albeit with the ball being about 4 yards away from him, he didnt want to attack it and was just going through the motions IMO. Beholder
Cheers for that. Always liked Laws and still do. Most successful manager we have had in the last 15 years. The facts speak for themselves.
Bluesteel
The only thing I could possibly criticise Laws for was the brown suit he started wearing at Burnley. Other than that he was a breath of fresh air during a difficult period.

Did a fantastic job- you only have to look at some of the teams put out under him to realise how little he was working with compared to Megson/Jones under Mandaric. Teams full of crocks and loanees; benches full of kids who had never played a game; best players being sold and a captain who sold him down the river only a few months after accepting the armband from him. I wouldn't have him back now but history should be kind to Brian Laws. I'd have him back. Not at this point but if Jones were to leave then I'd welcome Laws back with open arms. He did tremendously well for us under greater restriction than he would be if he returned now. Laws is arguably the best manager we've had since Big Ron's second stint at the club. The undertaker
Always had Hugh respect for Brian laws. Did incredibly well at a very hard time for our club. If only at the time we could have kept the players he spoke about & maybe added 2 or 3 more we may well have made the playoffs, it could have been a very different story these last few years. Worksop Wednesday
Great reference to Chris Brunt (33 mins) - he was flying scoring and creating goals - contributed to 20 odd goals and 'we had strikers scoring goals because of him !! ....... if only then, Billy Sharp - came for talks out of respect for him but felt Sharp's heart always with United - if only ...................... and he mentioned Sharp's dad being big Utd fan - I once spoke to a family who lived across road from Sharp as a kid - they said his dad fetched young Billy out of school every day at dinner time so he could kick a ball against a wall - all they ever heard from his dad was - your gonna play for United one day ! then, Says he ikes to get players in early as possible and not last minute going into season ! If only............ Brilliant.
B.A Baracus
Jeffers . Irrespective of the bad challenge from Shawcross, he goes down as one of our worst signings in history. You only need to look at his career history before and after this tackle to see that.
mcmigo
Good to see some love for Brian. Did a great job at SWFC - the run that almost took us into the playoffs was a fantastic little spell supporting Wednesday. We had a wage bill of about 4 million a year and were beating WBA away, Norwich away etc. Played some great football at times. Brunt turned into one hell of a player under Laws and went from a bit of a boo boy at times to a 3 million quid international. Laws was basically the only thing good about the club for a good while. My only 2 regrets are the way it ended after he was shafted on the 2 million thing so disengaged for that horrible final run of results, and that I personally missed some great games when he was manager when I exiled myself from the club post the legal action against grandad (though dont regret making the stand which was the right thing to do). And Brian Laws quickly had his name removed from the legal action.Which must have caused a stir with the bosses. And we had to write allegedly or "A passing tramp said" on every post we made. mcmigo
Ha ha i remember those posts - the long lost Wise Owl was especially good at inventing new ways of distancing himself from opinions. Dark days.
Sonny
So true. Distancing yourself from an opinion became an art form on here. A clever post disguised an opinion so well to the untrained eye that all kinds of accusations could follow without anyone else really knowing what the hell you were talking about. Followed by some Asteener poetry that would appear totally abstract if you didn't know what was actually going off. Horrible yet funny times. Come back Wise-O.
