Interview with DM - surprisingly early

For the majority of the last 2-3 years theres been little to look forward to with Wednesday, Chansiri had taken so much of the heart of the club away. I'm not convinced by DM tactically but I'm really looking forward to next season and I particularly enjoyed the second half of last season. Moreover, he has brought some unity and heart back into the club. 

We could be a club on the rise again, we seem to be building some spirit. I don't think you can find a nicer guy than DM and he clearly has connections as well as a good reputation, so I'd like to give him as much time and opportunity as possible. 

There was some sort of stat that in the last 25 years we've only finished top 10 around 6 times so I hope we can reverse that stat. I'd love to see us win the title, it's not happened in the last 50 + years, we've never gone up as Champions even when we had Hirst, Nilsson, Shezza in the team. 

I don't agree with a couple of comments above, even if we were in the division 3 more years (I really hope we aren't) we will still attract players just like Sunderland did last season. The size of the fan base gives us that one advantage, weve just been poor at making it count.

TomtheOwl95 answers some of the other points I disagree with and in respect of the "nowt like rewarding failure" comment, it's worth remembering we all got behind Atkinson when he took us down with a squad that was far far better than where it finished and we got behind Jack despite a very indifferent start as a Wednesday manager. Over a year after their managerial appointment at Wednesday they were both doing worse than Moore.

My biggest reservation is the amount of preseason changes needed, plus the possible reset on formation (will he try 4-2-3-1 again) could lead to another slow start and I really hope he has the wherewithal to not let that happen otherwise fans may quickly be on his back. We do need to restart building the squad with younger players who will be the backbone for a few years

The mans clearly focused and put the playoffs behind him. Can only be a good thing, lets get behind him.

We've had loads of these sort of interviews from our various managers over the last 21 years, telling us how it went what needs to be done in the future to improve the club and team, yeah yeah yeah enough already, just put your heads down and get on with it.

could have been looking at a bottom half finish? when our wage bill last season was 10x that of morecambe accrington cheltenham fleetwood and 2-3 others . he was heavily backed in fact it surprised me and others how well he was backed . top 6 last season was an absolute minimum this season top 2 . 

the reality is though we could still be in this league for years if the right recruitment and tactics aint used properly.  d moore deserves to have another go but if we aint top 6 and pushing top 2 by october we need a change if the right man is out there , a neil i touted as a new manager at xmas look what happened with him.

We don’t want to be in this league and wouldn’t be but for finance. But once you’re in, it’s not so easy to get out. Just demanding that we do means nothing. 
 

This time last season, I didn’t share the view, but there was a view we might really struggle and be in another relegation battle. In the context of the issues we had, getting the club a foundation again and a better atmosphere is an achievement. I think we should’ve gone up with that squad but we also had a lot of injuries.

 

DM isn’t perfect on the game management side but when he came in the general consensus after chopping managers was that he needed time. I thought we might as well get someone in that people like and plays decent football and take it from there. I think we can build a side in L1 on a smaller budget that can make better headway in the championship than the stagnant one we had.
 

Nonetheless if we dont get off to a good start or don’t make it next season I think that will be time. Looking at Sunderland however, the ire at being here cost several managers and that change didn’t get them any higher up the league, albeit with finally mastering the playoffs after 5/6 attempts

Darren, I really hope you achieve promotion with Wednesday but doesnt matter what formation you decide on, please please organise your team and explain to your players exactly what they are responsible for on the pitch. Defending set pieces is really a joke and subsequently our downfall for not achieving promotion. Let the oppostion worry about us and second guess how we are going to play. The league was their for the taking last season.

He's talking as if the last season in division 3 was a triumph

 

Bottom line he failed to get us out of the third division, and with the players he's had we should have romped out, the guy in charge at rovrum, goodness knows what his budget was, at a guess probably a third of Darren Moores

 

No confidence in him, when we won six nil next game he changed three players WTF

Doesn’t matter the budget of ‘the guy at rovrum’ as he had continuity of the same players he’s had for a while, therefore they can hit the ground running - which they did.

 

I think DM did a decent job in all fairness with the turnaround of players and hang-ups from relegation. For me he deserves another crack with a little money to spend.

Yes and I also think that when Rotherham United go away from home the opposition are not as up for playing them/showing them as they are Wednesday or Sunderland or Derby. It’s a huge challenge in this league.

I am a fan and always will be. As you might know I campaigned to get the legend Ryan Lowe at the club, he could have made an impact but we'll never know, I still believe that DM is not the right man for the job.

Its one of those where if he doesn’t have the best of starts next season he’d have to go, we have to be in contention for automatics all the way through. 
 

I’d think it’s more likely than not that we won’t be in contention all the way through on the basis that I’ve not seen anything to suggest he will get the required consistency and not bottle big games.

 

We will probably do well enough though to be in contention for the play offs which might keep DM in a job, can see him being given the season if we’re on for top 6.

 

I’m so bored of this division already and just have a feeling we might get stuck down here a while now unless we have a manager that can guide us to automatic promotion.

Yes, let’s bring in a promotion specialist. We go up, we come back down eventually. 3 f**king times we’ve been in this league this century. If the penny hasn’t dropped with some supporters by now that we have to build a solid base no matter longer how long it takes, we’ll be stuck outside the top flight for 50 years.

 

This manager has a long term plan, the ear and the backing of the Chairman which is particularly crucial at this club but the fans have to hold firm and give him time and support otherwise it’ll be Groundhog Day for the umpteenth time and we can’t afford for that to happen again.

As with most things the "truth" is somewhere down the middle.

 

DM,s detractors overlook what was , for the most part , a cracking 2nd half of the season , his bravery in changing the formation ,  and how hamstrung he was at times with injuries.

 

His fans conveniently overlook the awful start to the season , his selectorial and tactical shortcomings , and worryingly how passive we were when it REALLY mattered.

 

I remain to be convinced , but looking at it dispassionately making a change at this stage probably wouldn`t be the right thing to do , and I think Vulva is right , he deserves the chance to finish what he started , but come November we need to be in or around the top 4.....not down in mid table.

 

Unlike Monk, Pulis, Luhukay etc this guy is likeable and relatable so i hope it works for him...........recruitment is key.........leave it to DM so he can stand or fall by his OWN choices.

No they don't

His fans understand that and would agree to those criticisms but would look at the overall picture

Quite impressed by Moore with that interview. Starting to get my interest again after the devastating final result.
