Wilder got United into the premier league with let's be honest a run-of-the-mill squad but what he had instead was a system these players adapted flawlessly and instilled a massive self-belief.

Monk's going to take it one better and get us promoted this season albeit starting on a deficit, but he has the system, he's adapting the players and he's instilling that self-belief.

Bump this end of the season

Let's hope so!!!

I'm allowing the giddiness, not only did we win which no one predicted but that was one of the most comfortable wins I've seen in a long, long time

I hope we never learn.

One of my favourite things about Owlstalk is the predictable lurching from glory to despair on a result by result basis.

Would be much less interesting without it

You know its been a good win when Reach gets called Reachy in a thread

Dosent get more giddy than that

That's just people trying to channel the spirit of Wilder.

As if cringy nicknames were somehow part of his magic formula.

Need to be more creative though - Gidzy will be hard to top.

As part of an argument its far from irrelevant, if Monk can make a good fist of this season then his stock will rise, should he fail and we look like going down then he will be out of a job and he will find it difficult to find a similar post.

Future employers will look at his overall record and see that he has had little success.

He his off to good start made some decent signings and now has the support of his backroom team.

Monk has plenty of critics amongst the fan base and it won't take much for them to start shouting from the rooftops once we hit a bad patch.  That's partly due to his record at other clubs where there is nothing on his CV which shows an out and out success.
