I don’t think he was bullied, he was just eased out of the squad

We have a few now who are too nice. One of the reasons Adam Reach will never be a top player is nothing to do with his talent it’s because he’s not aggressive enough, he has no edge

Doesn't sound as straightforward as being eased out from the way it has been described. Megson's approach does work for some, rile them up, get them hyped and watch them take it out on the opposition. Spurr was never that kind of player and that kind of approach was clearly not going to work on him.

You need some players with aggression and leadership in the team but it needs to be natural rather than forced. You don't have to have 11 players like that and you don't have to be like that to succeed, you need a will to win but you don't have to be aggressive and shout and ball at people, David Silva seems to have done OK for himself as without those traits, there are plenty of other examples.

Megson for players is a bit like marmite, you will love him or hate home.
Has an old fashioned approach that is probably unsuited to modern football.

But you could never say his sides were ever out worked on the pitch.

Will always remember Tommy Spurr most for his goal in first min v United and his goal v Plymouth from about 35 years out.
Decent Championship player in his time.

That’s what I liked about Megson, he weeded out the players who weren’t up to it. Being nice doesn’t make you a winner, the mentality has to be right and successful players need an edge to them

Eh? You don't have to be a Roy Keane/ Vinnie Jones type to be a winner.

Listened to this yesterday, it was a good listen. Surprised to hear that Tommy’s first professional contract at the start of the 2006/2007 season was only £100 a week, he was basically told by Sturrock take it or leave it and he signed it because he was buzzing to be playing professional football at a team the size of Sheffield Wednesday.

Said that Irvine constantly made him and Beevers watch videos and he over analysed everything to the point he didn’t play his natural game and was overthinking his every move or pass because of it and says that it didn’t help his game at all.

Says that Megson totally froze him out and it was down to him basically just not liking him, he was forced to play with the youth team and then around March time he was told to stay away from the club completely. Says this hurt him a lot as he loved the club but it did leave a bitter taste. Apparently Megson wanted him to be shouting at other players and pinning them up against the wall etc when they weren’t performing, Tommy said that wasn’t his character and that he showed what he was about on the pitch in terms of workrate etc and from that moment on he was frozen out.

Where is this podcast? I can't find a Tommy Spurr one

I’m not saying you have to be a thug, but you do have to have aggression on the pitch. Spurr didn’t have it, neither did Beevers, that’s why they were replaced with Rob Jones, Miguel Llera and Danny Batth

Ties in sort of with Chris Sedgewick saying there was a feght every day in the dressing room

lol

Micky Gray makes us sound terrible too. Says the dressing room was awful. Singles out Leon Clarke and Jermaine Johnson. Says youngsters like Spurr and Beevers were the better ones who took training seriously.

Leon Knight made us sound bad, but he was instigating the problems half the time. Feuding with Hendon, trialists etc.

The Wednesday relevant bit is about 1h 51 min into the show.

Said it was the worse dressing room in his career with most just throwing it off

Not sure which player it was but the jist of the story , Clinton Morrison thought  Miguel  Llera had slighted him ( brave choice he's 6'4") and went home to put his " fighting" clothes on.

Drove down to middlewood and was going to surprise him ,even asked a trainee if he was there.

Turns out Llera' s brother was visting him and is a Spanish national kickboxer.

Drove home

Much as I want Monk out I would certainly not want a dinasaur like Megson to ever come back.

His dad was a goodun tho.

Megson did a good job managing us but it’s worth noting that other than a temporary spell at WBA he hasn’t managed since.

Forget the guests but they said there is a constant theme of Clinton Morrison threatening to shoot/kill other players. Suggesting it will happen if they ever go to London etc.

He of course engineered a hate campaign against Megson on twitter through a baby mother’s account.

I was disappointed listening to the podcast.
Tommy is a Wednesday lad and loved playing for the club.

If you rated him or not, the way GM treated him was terrible. Football is ruthless and there is no room for sentiment, however there is room to treat everyone with respect.

Megson is past it now, he could not manage in the current world.
