The likes of Will Hughes, Tom Ince, Matej Vydra, Cyrus Christie brought in 30 million in the last 2 seasons alone. This is where we miss the boat as we just buy and don't sell when the time is right. You can only sustain that for so long. Spot on, the teams looking in the strongest positions this season to mount a challenge (Derby, Forest, Boro) have sold assets when they were at maximum value and reinvested to freshen up the squad. We’ve just refused even the thought of letting our stars leave putting us in this position now.
Suzuki_San
So Chelsea have signed Kepa for £71m as Courtois is moving to Real...so.... ...what was the tenuous link with Westwood again?! Wasn’t it Butland potentially moving to Chelsea so stoke would want Westwood?
Bluesteel
Boro have parachute payments to add to the mix and have spent a lot last season. Forest sound like they need to go up straight away, derby can’t be right given what they said earlier this summer. Everyones gambling but yes, a more considered approach to sales and reinvestment would’ve probably helped us immensely
Bluesteel
Cardiff wanted Westwood and Lee camp left them today. They still have smithies and etheridge though

Groundhopping Owl
Derby will probably be fine FFP wise, they have a much higher turnover than we do from other areas like commercial income. Clubs that are at least vaguely well run don't tend to fall afoul of FFP.

It's a gamble but they seem to have a more rounded team now which is bold and ballsy. Our issue is that we've for some reason never sold one of our top players. Even the elite clubs have to sell. WalthamOwl
Please please please Wednesday do not sell FF today. Oh and if you could DC get us a loan player or 2. Thanks.
Suzuki_San
If we get rid of Westwood today, or...maybe even loan him...maybe there will then be enough to fund a loan between now and the end of August. There isn’t really anyone else we can afford to lose, is there? Jones and Abdi maybe, but this is Deadline Day, not Rubbing A Genies Lamp day. Beauchief Owl
TBH spending nothing in this transfer window is still better business than spending four million on VA last summer.
