TrickyTrev
I admire your optimism. I personally don't think this United side is the set of world beaters they are often painted to be by their fans and the local media. Granted Wilder has done a very good job there but I think they've got found out a little bit now and since Coutts got injured they have won once in their last 8 league games. I fully expect them to finish around 8th/9th in the table. That said, I just can't see how we go there and win with the amount of key players missing that we have. Our first choice keeper, first choice centre half, first choice right back, 3 first choice mid-fielders and our 3 first choice forwards. There isn't a signal side in the division that could cope with that loss and had the pigs got a similar injury list, I'd fancy us to go there and beat them handsomely. My heart says we will go there and a few of the squad players will up their game hoping to make an impression on the new manager but I just think that some of them are very limited (Butterfield, Jones, Nuhiu, Joao, Palmer, Venancio) and the pigs with a settled side should come away with all 3 points. My main fear is how much they beat us by. Really, REALLY hope I'm wrong but I just can't see us getting anything there.

Pale Rider
The post is crazy. More than once it has been suggested playing Rhodes on his own up top. Its obviously his best role, he has all the attributes, strength on the ball. close control, good distribution and blinding pace.

optimisticowl
The new manager is not making a song and dance about the Friday night match, this is good as he can’t really be blamed for a defeat or lorded for a victory, I’m just looking for 100% effort and enthusiasm from the selected players. So maybe let's focus on his goal record for other clubs, and get behind him for the derby He clearly can score goals, let's hope he does this Friday. Let the players around get him a chance. N0rtherner
All we need for Friday is a team of 11 players ready to go out there and battle it out. Every duel Every header Every block Every pass Every overlapping run Every second ball Take your shots (I want to see Wallace cut in from the right with his signature move and let one rip through the net behind Moore, Reach, Abdi, Matias, whoever finds themselves in shooting position, just get that shot off towards goal). It's 90 minutes, it's the pigs on the other side and the chance to get your revenge for the farce and embarrassment we suffered at home, at their own home ground. Each player delivering a 100% performance, working their own socks off and driving forward your own team mates in the process, covering for each other. If each and every one of you dig in, then we have effort and commitment, and you'll cancel out that factor of the Blades, at which point, you've got both the experience and skill to beat this team. I admire your enthusiasm and optimism and I would hope that we get 100% performances from the players. However, I feel we will be a way off on Friday night. All our best players are out injured. No team in this league would cope with their best 7 players out injured plus others. You can only say Reach is fit from our elite players.

Yes, the best may be injured, but we have quality subs in many positions, and some of the younger players could pull of a really dedicated performance knowing what's a stake... being local they should have no problem identifying with the importance of the derby. Wildsmith, Palmer, Hunt, Reach, Wallace, Abdi, Matias, Rhodes, Joao That bunch are not poor players; and would probably go straight into first team of other Championship teams, so this is up for the taking. We're underdogs going into this; with how our season has gone and also all the injuries, so it's the perfect opportunity to rise to the occasion. bigthinrob
Cannot believe the level of whingy negativity prior to a Derby. Seriously, anyone would think we're playing a mixed 11 from Barca & Real Madrid. Does history not teach people anything? Form, favourites, squad depth, counts for nothing, as we have found out on numerous occasions. It's f*****n Sheffield Shi*bag United, who've done absolutely nowt in the last few games. The fact we'll have what amounts to nearly a reserve team out may work in our favour. Suddenly the roles are reversed, it's no longer the rich aristocratic ball players against the feisty local boys made good. It's us who are up against it and I think that may suit us. Congrats to the ones with a bit of positivity, but for the rest, stop this mealy mouthed pathetic 'throwing the towel in' attitude. "OOh I'm dreading it", "Ooh, can't see us getting anything". We will f**k em. And if we don't f**k em this time, we'll f**k em next time and the time after. As the song says they're "Dirty red & white ba***ards" and they're going to get a f****n. 1

Eightace
You can be as positive or as negative as you like but it won't make any difference. We could win but in all honestly we'll probably have to field a very poor side who lack bottle and attacking nous. We've not seen much good from these players and it's very hard to believe they can suddenly turn good. Especially when the pressure is on. We lost 3-0 at home to Burton ffs. The Dukeries Owl
Why not play Joao up front? He's got pace and trickery. He is not and never will be a winger. We've ruined enough players in the past two years, can we please stop doing it now!
