Of course they insist on others opinions Players get opinions from high level orthopaedic specialists all the time My guess is that it was a condition that could have immediate surgery but also could respond to conservative rehab/managment And with the critical point of the season the decision was taken to try the non-surgical approach and keep him available But the OP says it's a different injury anyway - some injuries require surgery and some don't - maybe the new injury is one that has no alternative to surgery?
