Fair enough, assumed they'd be played at a fair pace tbh, young legs n all no excuse ;)

you'd think so wouldn't you and i'm sure they can run just as fast as the seniors but the skill levels and speed of brain /nous(call it what you want ) is so  far removed from the 1st team that the game I saw was played at a very pedestrian tempo .....why carlos's get berated by a few for not fast tracking some of them into the squad is a mystery .

That's why we have to persist with Joao Yes his game is a mixed bag, but he can do things only Forestieri, of our other strikers can do In games when it's tight and our other strikers are anonymous, he can win us the game

He's only going to improve by being given a run of games, he's unpredictable sure but I'd take that on the bench every time.

We won games away at Brentford, home to Hudds with Joao coming on against tired defenders and tearing them a new one.

He's decent in the air too, so can defend our box if needed at end of games.

Joao has plenty going for him but needs a season long loan move to a team where they can make him their main man and more easily tolerate his inconsistency whilst he develops. So somebody lower down a division somewhere.

He's got the raw tools but (being very blunt) he will not dislodge Hooper, Fletcher, Forestieri and Rhodes in the 18 never mind our first 11. Regardless of how well he plays in training, cup games and u23 matches. The pressure on CC to get us up around the top 4-6 places doesn't allow freedom to experiment with unknown quantities or even support much development for players. Our recruitment has clearly been shifted since we signed Joao to more experienced (older) players who don't need to be delicately handled and supported- Hooper, Fletcher, Rhodes, Jones, Boyd etc

It's a waste of time holding onto him this season, he needs a loan.

Someone needs to dislodge Rhodes permanently off to anywhere that'll have him

Trudged off after he had been subbed with Nuhiu and Fernando back to the players canteen area.

...

Can't tell if whoosh or short-sighted :duntmatter:

I don't think CC would be heartbroken if all 3 of these went before the window closes- although I do think he'd like Joao out on loan rather than a permanent move.

Would still leave us with Fletch, Hooper, Winnall and Rhodes, with young Hirsty as a back up if required.

Don't forget it looks like Hirst will be going on loan as well.

Not the point though. It must be demoralising for the young centre backs when Carlos would rather play players out of position.  Pathway to the first team blocked.

The point is that Carlos believes Pudil will do a better job at CB in a Championship match (or league cup) than the young lads. So he picks him.

Joao has just shown what a different level u-23 is compared to championship.

I am sure that the coaching staff at the club have a better understanding of when players are ready to step up a level than pretty much everyone one on here.

Yes it is. However compared to the first team its like watching a slow motion version. The difference in pace and quality between the two levels is vast.

Granted it wouldn't happen in the first team environment but I'm giving the lad some credit!
