Where did it all go wrong?

Recommended Posts

There's some truth in it but if it's that easy to get these 4 or 5 key players, every club would get them and every club would get promoted.

"All we need are two attacking full backs who can defend as well, a leader at the back, a beast in midfield, two pacey but hard working wingers , and a twenty goal a season man. Then we're on our way" lol

As no one seems to have started a similar topic this week

Based on what others have said, the most common explanations seem to be

1) Not enough pace

Solution: A pacy winger or forward

Probability: Next to zero. The club won't buy another forward, and will only get another winger if someon (such as Forestieri) leaves. There are already 4 people at the club who play wide midfield

2) Overrun in midfield

Solution: A beast of a midfielder

Probability: Slightly above zero. The club already has Abdi, Lee, Bannan, Jones and Hutchinson competing for what is really 2 spots (though Carlos seems to love Bannan so much he gets to play out wide). Such a beast would not only be expensive, it would probably also require a couple to move out, or Hutchinson to be a permanent central defender

3) Not enough in CD

Solution: Quality CD who can move the ball out and has presence in the air

Probability: Hopefully high, but as the club have said, players who will improve the team are expensive. Improving the squad is nice, but part of the problem has been the need for the midfielders to do too much in defence, and a new better player, would leave them free to be more attack minded

4) Bad tactics

Solution: Better tactics

Probability: Anything but 4-4-2, very low, but there is a lot of flexibility within 4-4-2. Still limited though, Carlos said 3-5-2 wouldn't work as we don't have the players, so he obviously sees a limit to how flexible he can be. More attacking in general has a high probability, Carlos has spoken of it, and if the team does get a new CD who can play the ball a bit, that would really help

very true post

Last season playing vs Huddersfield, who had a young inexperienced GK in their playoff squad.

It all went wrong in that match, we could've at least tested him with some shots.

then it wouldn't have gone to pens.

we'd all get to visit Wembley again

and against a lacklustre Reading side, we could've celebrated 150yrs in the Prem.

ps: any news on our kit yet ?

Lack of pace and too defensive/negative.In the friendly games so far that has been pretty much the same.

If we can get a good CB and a quick winger in and actually use him and Carlos opens up our style of play again it should be a very fun season.Let's hope.

How is guessing the clubs transfer plans when he has no inside knowledge a very true post?

lol

Did he also predict that the club would bring in 4 players that can play left back last season?

and that we'd sign a 6th striker in Winnall and follow it up with a 7th in Rhodes a couple of weeks later?

if he knew the above then fair enough his transfer "probabilities" for this summer are spot on.

I would say it all went wrong somewhere around 1999 when we ended up with a squad of premier league players who wern't good enough and on ridiculous contracts. Good to see the last few years have finally turned that around.

Oh. Sorry. You think drawing 0-0 with Vitoria in a friendly is as bad as it gets? i've got some bad news for you.

I assume you want us to ignore every other variable like availability of the pacy winger, midfield beast and any of the quality CD's you haven't suggested, and things like cost, wages, his wanting to join us, work permits, other teams showing interest, medicals, things like that. You know, the small stuff that makes answers harder to achieve?

4) Bad tactics

Solution: Better tactics

You know, if only we had noticed that our bad tactics last season - the ones that gave us the highest league finish and number of points since relegatoin from the PL - were at fault. Also, and I am laughing now, I can't believe CC stupidly factored in the oppostion either. If we take the opposition out of the equation, it makes things far more easier because then we don't need to do any:

  • scouting including set peice routines, takers of set peices and players involved, team and players metrics and stats
  • worry about how to control and isolate oppostion playmakers
  • worry about their league position and how they will approach the game
  • their mental attitude towards the game/playing us
  • their 'keeper saving our shots on target or other opposition players disrupting our play or getting in the way of our passes

All of these things turn good tactics in to bad ones and by simply ignoring these and other factors we have a solution. I think we should get rid of all our managers and coaches because it is now evident to me that they are over-complicating and over-thinking things.

I have a solution if we don't score many goals.

Get someone else who scores lots of goals.

You can thank me later for that one.

OMG! Why didn't CC think of this?

And what about the W.H.O. and it's poor figures on Malaria deaths in developing countries. What would be your solution, just get rid of Malaria?

I'd put O.S.H on the end of W.H.O. and call it the wind of change.
