Fiorentina

Recommended Posts

I Won an arts competition at one of the prominent Schools of Art two hours tuition a day for a couple of weeks. There was a mixed group of ten or so from across Sheffield.

On our last Sunday (Strange for a catholic  Country) but only three lads were bothered to visit the Horse Shoe, A three sided ground with an open end. Numbers were down because of all the 0-0 scores through the previous week. It ended 4-2 to Fiorentina enjoyed the game on the cheap side where the Sun beat down on us.

The song doing the rounds at the time was "Piangi" by Richard Anthony. Digs were great and the food superb. Had a trip to Viareggio and Pisa too also an Easter passion play in the mountains.

Noticed a Wednesday flag on the highlights of Fiorentina’s recent game vs AC Milan. Viola Owls maybe? Not seen him post for a while.

It’s a flag we brought over a few years ago that lives in Florence now. A group of Wednesday fans went over to the match last week, so they put it on display.

Oh aye…that’s because we were crap. I think Eric Taylor agreed to enter it to pacify the fans after the relegation season, it was a pre season competition iirc and no bugger went to watch it…as you rightly say we did crap and the mighty Swindon Town won it. Must have been in their Don Rogers era.

Absolutely loved watching Italian Football in the 90's on channel 4 presented by James Richardson.   And Fiorentina were one of the best teams to watch,  always wish we have a star striker like Batistuta, as i just missed out on watching Hirst in his pomp for us.

You would think they would still at least show the highlights

Just been reading up on the Anglo Italian Cup…there were some interesting “duels” in 1970. West Brom game in Italy was abandoned after Asa Hartford started a mass brawl on the pitch. And in the final at Napoli , Swindon went 3-0 up and all hell broke loose. Don Rogers had to dribble around concrete blocks that had been thrown, linesman was hit and another Swindon player (Horsfield) was hit by something at half time. Ref awarded the game to Swindon after 79 mins!
Mind you Hillsborough was a similar place in the 70’s…you could quite easily get your head knocked off by a flying cushion…oh yes…dangerous times!😉
