What's our best 11?

Recommended Posts

Westwood

hunt

hutch

pudil

wallace

jones/ bb

abdi/ lee

reach

ff

fletch

think we've got to be careful not to try shoehorning players into positions. It should be the best players for each position. I love lee and Bb they were great last year but if they're not as good as abdi and Jones then they shouldn't play.

Its always been 442 and now he has 4 quality wingers he's hardly going to change.

I can't imagine we will see a 5mil left back, apart from dire emergencies.

Many questions...

Could he use FF and Reach on either wing?

More likely he has decided it is Fletch + FF up front. Knowing that FF comes deep to fetch the ball, how does Abdi fit into CM?

Will he alternate between FF and Hooper up front?

Which five of these eleven players will sit on the bench?

Fletcher, Hooper, FF, Reach, Abdi, Jones, Wallace, Lee, Bannan, Buckley, Joao

We will find out the master plan 45 minutes before Wigan. Exciting times.

True. But the our 3 biggest signings this summer are probably at their best in a 4231.

I'd say 4-3-3, but each their own

I'd hazard that Carlos still doesn't really know what formation he wants yet. I know Wily's about to come in and say "it's 4-4-2", but it's so fluid it regularly looks like 4-3-3. I suspect the next week will be spent refining the system. Who knows what'll happen... at least we have options I guess. Still painfully short at LB mind, but at least Reach can cover there

Anyone noticed that Carlos likes 4-4-2? Anybody?

That could be because he didn't have the players and had no for centre backs

I do get you're point though and think he will still line up 442 but baring depth at the back I think our starting 11 is better suited to a 352

This is what is still a worry with Carlos -  and can he make these tough calls?  Which previous shoe ins will have to start making way...

This will be key to our upcoming results and his own future here...we have just made our most expensive signing which will apply just that bit more pressure to get results.

I think the main issue with 442 at the moment, is where does Abdi fit? We've paid a big fee, he's a class act and he's going to play. But he's not a winger and i can't really imagine him playing centrally in a 2.

Looking at what prices have been paid today, we have a lot of very valuable players. The cost of recent purchases or the value of existing players can't determine who should play.

For example, Lee would sell for more than we paid for Abdi.

Bannan would sell for more than we paid for Jones.

etc...

At least after today we should never see Abdi or Bannan out wide again.

It will be either

Westwood

Palmer - Lees - Loovens - Pudil

Wallace - Lee - Abdi - Reach

Fletcher - Forestieri

OR

Westwood

Palmer - Lees - Loovens - Reach

Wallace - Lee - Abdi - Forestieri

Fletcher - Hooper

as the starting 11 against Wigan, with Hutchinson, Bannan, Buckley and Hunt definitely coming in for Bristol City.

I'm not saying the cost of players should determine if they play. The point is for CC/DC to rate a 29 year old enough to pay £4m, he's going to play. Whether he should or not is a different argument. We're Sheffield Wednesday, we don't go throwing that amount of cash around willy nilly.

It's becoming very hard to pick a starting 11 or even a formation now.

very few positions are looking safe for me probably westwood, Hutchinson, lees, and maybe fletcher,

One things for sure there is going to be some quality on the bench

Whats everyone's best formation and starting 11 on fit squad with current players. Wouldn't like to be Carlos picking it anyway

What's Fletcher doing to Abdi?

Not sure it's as simple as picking a best eleven now. What's good is we have competition for places and some versatility in our squad. The next match day squad for me when everyone is fit and back from suspension would be.

Westwood, Wildsmith

Hunt, Lees, Hutchinson, Pudil, Loovens, Sasso

Lee, Jones, Bannan, Reach, Abdi, Wallace, Buckley

Fletcher, Forestieri, Hooper

Thats an extremely strong match day squad, the best I can remember!

It's over to you now Carlos, with the below options he needs to find a starting eleven that will win the majority of matches it plays. Good luck!

Westwood      Wildsmith

Hunt               Palmer

Lees               Sasso

Hutch.            Loovens

Pudil               Helan

Wallace          Buckley

Jones             Bannan

Abdi                Lee

Reach             Sougou

Forestieri        Hooper

Fletcher          Joao
