Players we have let go, this season or last

Frank Simek - we could have done with a right back at times this season and Frankie was performing at Carlisle.

Ettienne Esajas - still think he's got everything to be a quality footballer, how we could have done with a set piece specialist and a left winger this season.

I also never got to see Esajas with a good run of games, shame really, i feel he really could have smashed this league, rather than have 4 central midfielders we could have

done with some width especially when JJ was out.

Like it or not Leon Clarke would've scored a hell of a lot more goals for us than Clinton & Heff combined.

Simek. Nothing to do with sentimentality, I understood the reasoning behind us getting rid, and that would have been fine had we taken his replacement seriously. But we didn't, and in the end not having a settled right back was a major contributing factor to our abysmal defence last season.

There was no guarantee that Simek would have made it back to his best for us, but he would have shown a hell of a lot more fight than the poo we brought in to mascerade as defenders in his place.

None. Simek was on too big a wedge for a full-back in this division at the time - especially for a team in our financial position.

Would have him back in a second though. Great player Frankie; with a little luck, a little more pace and without his injury he could have been premier league.

Exactly. Given our situation, at the time, Simek was not worth the risk. Hindsight is a *****. It's so easy to say now that we should've kept him, but in reality it wasn't much of an option. After all the crocks we've signed/resigned I can't blame the management from shying away from this one..

I've no promble at all with that reasoning, but Simek was out of contract and I don't think he will be on anything like the wedge he was on now he's at Carlisle, for me, all we had to do was offer him what Carlisle offered.

Just a bloke, who used up all his luck in one go when he met his wife.

Not sure - If your club offers you half the wage you were on, having hardly played you for a quarter of a season (or whatever it was) would you take it? Or would you say 'sod this' and go and start afresh somewhere else, even if the offer was slightly poorer?

If it was me I would go with the latter. Sometimes things just don't work out - The end of Frankie's contract was one of those times. Not that I have any affection for the old regime, but what we did in this situation made sense and you can see how it all panned out.
