The West Brom Match -- Some Mathematical Certainties

Recommended Posts

Against West Brom:

If we win…… we stay out of the drop zone and the chance of relegation is about 40%

If we draw…. We stay out of the drop zone -- unless Birmingham win

If we lose…. We’re back in the drop zone no matter what happens anywhere else in the Championship

If we win, the chance of relegation will likely be a lot less than 40%.

If Huddersfield also win it’d be more like 90%.

The only way I can see us winning and the odds even resembling 40% would be if Blackburn, Birmingham and Plymouth also win.

Your 40pc figure seems very high to me. If we win I'd say 25pc tops

Didn’t realise the last stat to be honest.

Just shows how important the match is next week.

Yeah it’s been said but our most realistic aim is get a draw at home to a strong WBA side and hope it’s a Hudds win or draw.

As if we are still out of the drop zone come last day, a lot of our rivals are playing against sides going for promotion - needing results.

Sunderland have decent players. But I said when they didn’t hire a permanent manager it was a bizarre decision and they haven’t been very good since.

how do you get the 40% figure?

Care to show the workings on that 40% figure?

If we win and Huddersfield also win then id say we are 95% safe because they would need to beat Ipswich at Portman Road and we would have to lose at Sunderland to go down.

So it's a 'must win' match. @DSandersonOWL

Ideal world imo

We win, Huddersfield win

4 point gap between us and Brum, the team with better goal difference.

3 point gap with Huddersfield, with closer goal difference; with them playing Ipswich away on the last day.

Hope Plymouth lose away at Millwall

Ideally we’d have to win 4-0 and Huddersfield only win 1-0 otherwise goal difference would go against us on the last day if it went to goal difference.

You’d hope Ipswich would do the job and it wouldn’t matter. But you never can rely on others..

Best case scenario is we are 3 clear going into Sunderland.

Worst case is we are 2 behind.

Today was must win, and we did.

Is a shame Hudders and Brum are playing each other and that a loss sends us back in.

Another nervous game coming up!

Unbeaten in 4 however.

Let's face facts Michael, we actually need this to aid our quest:
