@owlstalk
Looking back at all the former players who have returned to the club either as managers, coaches or physios etc - has it been an success overall? Is there any real advantage in real success terms of players who have played for us coming back? There's the romantic ideas behind it and the 'he knows the club' etc but does it actually bring better results in real terms? 2 Owlstalk Shop

31Dec1966
Knowing the club is a complete myth. What matters is talent and knowledge, and hard work, that works anywhere.
Popular Post Dan™
Megson turned around a sinking ship and made Hillsborough a fortress in a very similar way to what Moore did last season. He was the perfect type of character to get us going in the right direction again at that point in time. 13 1

Didn't turn us into title winners or anything but shored up the midfield from his first game back. Think he scored too....Man City at home????? JohnnyQuinnsQuiff
I just don’t get this “they know the club”? Harry Catterick “knew the club”, that’s the reason he left us! No ambition.
part timer owl
I ask any of you, if you were to go back to an employer/company you worked for say 10yrs ago. The building is pretty much the same but the staff, noises and culture are all different. You might find that there's a few familiar faces, but in general nothing is the same as when you were last there. When you moved on to your next job it was for a reason, and you left all that behind you. For me, same goes for our ex players. There might be a pull for them, but if they come back, they come back a fresh. Palmer for instance, was late in his career, but just wasn't the same. Would rather have people coming in new to the place than having previous connections with us. We get the lust that way and there's a getting used to each other period, this allows us all to concentrate on what they are doing today and tomorrow, rather than what they did in the past!
Wynyard Owl
Knowing the history and achievements of a club. Being aware of past set ups won’t guarantee future success its more important that a newly appointed management team can work well together building a new team regardless of whom they have worked for in the past
