matthefish2002 Posted March 4 Share Posted March 4 Think many fans fell out with Monk after he ostracised fans favourites Westwood and Hutchinson. Although personally think he was spot on with these two. Had a better squad than Röhl has now and had us nowhere near the playing level or pointage that Röhl has had us at. We had stopped paying players, started the season on -12, the place was in utter chaos in 2020. Monk knew we could grind out results to stay up- eg the win v Bournemouth - and we were slowly catching up that points deduction. Instead DC had a brain meltdown, sacked monk , brought in Pulis, restored westy, signed Hutchinson and completely collapsed to the bottom of the league where we stayed. Look at the coaches he did bring in when allowed. Utter bobbins they were snd let’s not forget early in Röhl’s reign, DC was spouting off about being unable to pay tax and wage bills. Wasn't really a terrible decision - he'd won 7 of his last 34 league games and the football was awful. Appointing Pulis was a terrible decision in hindsight, but Monk just had to go. Especially after that week where everybody had been saying that was when we'd turn it around with 3 "easier" fixtures, and we lost all 3 games without scoring a single goal, including getting battered by relegation rivals Rotherham and losing to a Wycombe team that had only gained 1 point from their 8 games.
