Wrexham United

Recommended Posts

Huge American airline sponsoring Wrexham next season. You’ve got to hand it to these two, they are playing an absolute blinder in terms of communications and strategy. Basically leveraging their celebrity to make Wrexham a shedload of money.

Smart money has to be on Wrexham to be in the Championship in 3 years.

Isn't there a rule that sponsors are limited on how much they can pay? i.e. it has to be the "going rate" for the level of the club, its why Chansiri couldn't get around FFP by paying millions for our shirt sponsorship.

Or does that not apply to "fairytales" where clubs have a suddem massive financial advantage over their peers?

They won’t be able to do anything absurd, but their shirt deal will likely still be the biggest in the league. Their average attendance last season was just shy of 10,000, meaning they will likely have the 2nd highest in League 2 behind Bradford. And they must sell a poo ton in merchandise and other sponsorship.

My bet is they will easily have the biggest budget in L2 and they have the momentum of a 100 point season behind them. If Stockport can make play offs in their first season back in the EFL I reckon Wrexham could be top 3 easily.

Population of Wrexham is just 61,000 so they're unlikely to be the next Arsenal.

They've always had decent support when doing well but fans quickly disappear when things are going poorly, attendances can drop to around 2,000.

If it is the owners sponsoring the club then yes, United Airlines will pay whatever they feel is the right amount.

They'll do league 2 and league 1 back to back. Problems start in the championship when they need to spanks proper money at it.

Think league 1 is a lot harder than that to escape.

They'll run in to bigger and more established clubs, tighter financial constraints and their squad will have much less experience at that level

Don’t think anyone was suggesting they were going to emulate 3rd biggest club in the country lol

But they can rightly look at the likes of Luton and ask “why not?”. Right now their owners are doing everything right in terms of equipping their club with financial clout without having to really dig deep into their own pockets.

Notts and Wrexham should be aiming for top 3 next season.

you’d bet both would be disappointed with staying down.

Wrexham might hit a wall in league one, but also you’d expect them to have bigger pull for loan players and frees. 2-3 years in there is probably a realistic aim.

Ryan and Rob may hit a ceiling before the team do. Gets expensive once you reach champ unless you’ve got a good retirement network as Luton have.

Good luck to Wrexham but I can see how they rub fans up the wrong way of other lower league and National League clubs.

Not necessarily Wrexham themselves more the gushing media coverage they now receive with The Hollywood owners.

You can bet your mortgage that they will be the first game broadcast this season, and especially vs Salford.

I've got Notts County in my bet to win league.

Shirt sponsorship for an avarage league 2 club will be at a certain amount per season. There are rules to stop sponsors or owners overinflatung this amount, otherwise an owner could say the sponsorship costs 100 million a season and get round ffp.

Thing is, Wrexham are no longer a standard league 2 team. They have worldwide exposure, probably bigger exposure than lower prem teams. So what is that kind of global reach worth?

They are properly irritating

Exactly. They're turning into a horrible plastic club. Over exposed and the media is ramming this "fairytale" down all our throats. Ordinarily I'm glad to see old league teams get back into the EFL but their backing has given them an advantage which must really hack off most smaller clubs.

Really hope they don't go up again this year.

It’s only chairman owned sponsorship that is limited (aka Chanseri sponsoring us). As they have no attachment to an airline the airline can pay whatever they want.

On them having exposure and money, it happens all the time. The only clubs that get annoyed are the ones that aren’t taken over.

Like Newcastle who hated City, now they’re immune because they “deserve it”.

As long as they don’t change too much of the club the Wrexham fans won’t largely care.
