The Return Of Luongo

Not going to stay fit for the rest of the season unfortunately.

We'll have to wait and see. His injury issues only started once he got to Sheffield.

In four seasons at QPR, other than an international call-up, he only failed to make the squad for a league game 21 times, with the longest run being two matches.

Sods' law we sign a player who played 75% of his team's league minutes over four consecutive seasons, and then he falls to pieces at Hillsborough!

I really hope he manages to return to full fitness on a consistent basis, for his sake and ours.

Very good player at this level. What does Moore do Tuesday play him or keep for Saturday ??

Has to play him Tuesday against MK. It's a big game and a win would put us in the top 6 with the momentum of back to back wins to go into Saturday's match. Need to put our best available team out

While ever he's fit enough he needs to play.

It was great to see Luongo back in the team again today, doing what he does best.

For anyone who doubted his importance to our squad, just take a look at the tackles made per game by our central midfielders:

Luongo: 6.5

Bannan: 2

Adeniran: 1.8

Wing: 1.6

Dele-Bashiru: 1.3

Byers: 1

He could be absolutely massive for us if he can remain fit from now on.

Fingers crossed, eh?

It’s never in doubt he is our best midfielder but unfortunately he won’t last more than a couple of games before injury

Agreed.

If you have to take him out for next Saturday then so be it, but he needs to be starting in a big game against the MK Dons.

Said in ratings he's 2 leagues above wing imo, only question is fdb or dennis at rcm now.

Just need windass back for some much needed pace upfront to help take some pressure off when we're pushed back

We’ve scored 9 in 4 games.

And missed loads of chances.

Why is pace much needed?

He should be nowhere near the pitch on Tuesday.

Weve 28 games left. It will be brilliant for our season if we get 20 or more games from him. No rush.

Why not if he's 100% fit?

You wouldn't play him on Tuesday yet you want him to play in 20 of the last 27 games.

If he has to manage his fitness, let him take it easy in training. That's where our players seem to get setbacks, don't make him do anything silly in training.

Because he’s been out for months on end. Needs a week of TLC to be back Saturday.

Can’t help but think that the move he had lines up before getting injured (back to Oz? ) will be resurrected in Jan (seeing as we’re not going to offer him a new contract)

Maybe. But iirc he also had a move on back to the Championship. Idk. My rose coloured glasses hopes we get promoted and he stays on 🙂

He can rest tomorrow, light training Monday, play Tuesday, take Wednesday off.

If he didn't play Tues he'd been in for training Wednesday and knowing our luck, get injured then

Just look at the total number of tackles made so far this season, then look across at the minutes played.

He's a proper battler, isn't he?

The lynchpin of our team if we can only keep him fit.

That’s quite something.

He looked like a Rolls Royce yesterday. The ferocity and effectiveness of his tackles was on a different level entirely. He must be a nightmare to play against, knowing he is prowling very nearby waiting to hit you and hit you hard.

That midfield, Bashers - Bannan - Luongo is something else.

I did think it was a mistake to keep him on. Despite what was at stake in this one game I’d have taken him off after 60. Hope he’s unscathed, hope he misses MKD, hope he’s fighting fit on Saturday and that his season kicks on from there.

Luongo is a top player at championship level never mind in this league…but he simply cannot be trusted to stay fit. A player who is fit for 5/6 games and then out for 7/8 causes problems for the team and no one settles into a system etc….

great player but you always know there’s a chance he’s not going to be fit.

He was fit for four seasons at QPR, though.

His issues only started at Hillsborough.

Let's just hope we manage his return properly this time and get him back for good.

Hopefully Adeniran in for him, or ir not Byers in for him

I can understand this but I’d play him for 60 mins on Tuesday and see how he is. Hopefully similar next Saturday then he can sit out the Papa Johns match and get 10 days rest!!
