Wigan Athletic go into administration

Recommended Posts

And so it begins. I fear big-time for league 1 and 2 clubs.

I've been talking about this from the start of the covid crisis and I'm worried that this could be the tip of the iceberg.

Best of luck to Wigan, I hope they get through this.

I think so too, but there's some noteworthy frequency at how Wigan's traded hands as of late

Saw something earlier that said they were taken over by a new buyer over 4 weeks ago. WTF?

Exactly.  How was this greenlit with any sort of due diligence by the governing body?

Are you saying the EFL haven't got a clue?Monkmanface

Shocking, but not surprising. Shame we have/allow to sell clubs to foreign owners in the first place.

The EFL really need to sort out the 'fit and proper person test' procedure as in it's present state is nothing more than a joke.

So read yesterday that the money men behind the takeover are high stakes gamblers,  and the theory is that they have taken the club into administration after wagering huge sums of money on Wigan being relegated.

Fit and proper owners,  obviously.

Anyone know why the points deduction hasn't been applied yet?

Even with the -12 deduction, they have a chance at staying up.

It gets applied if they finish above the relegation places.
