Based on these budgets SYP's available resource per capita is actually higher than Greater Manchester.

Why then do they not have a problem policing the Manc. derby?

Yet syp have trouble managing significantly smaller crowds although they have 5% better budget relative to population.

Must try harder.

Both City and MU pay about £1m each for policing per season (don't know actual police costs. Do they contribute relatively more than us?)

Wednesday pay the police £200,000 per season (total police cost £440,000)

Most Prem London clubs pay less than we do.

We probably won't see a Sheffield derby kick off at 3pm on a Saturday ever again.

When was the last one that actually did ?

Is that a rhetorical question? lol

Well more just a question in a rhetorical style. But a genuine question as to whether the game in recent years as ever kicked off at 3pm on a Saturday.

It’s a fair point on police numbers/budgets etc. but the Sheffield derby has a relatively low attendance compared with some of the other derbies people are talking about. Also, Tyne and Weae have to deal with 52k at Newcastle one week then 20/30k + at Sunderland the next. When they were both in the premiership that meant some pretty well supported away fans.

Also, if we’re talking per capita what about some of the lower division derbies that can get pretty heated? Say Swindon/Oxford? Or even some of the south coast derbies? They don’t get as many but presumably have tiny police forces compared with SYP.

That said, I do acknowledge that police forces have been hammered by this government to the point where certain crimes aren’t bothered with any more. But that’s the same for most police forces. South Yorkshire are probably even worse off due to the Hillsborough and Sexual Exploitation enquires.

Still no excuse for their pathetic policing of football compared with other forces.

Absolute joke of a police force.

Whoever is responsible for arranging policing for large events should resign. As others have pointed out, look at Manchester - there can be two football games/cricket, gigs at the M.E.N, loads of smaller gigs and then all the areas with bars and clubs to police. SYP do not face the same pressures, regardless of budget.

But we must have the naughtiest fans.

I don't think any major Derbies around the country are played on Saturday anymore. Sky and police generally have a say, and most appear to be Sunday, but SYP do seem to be the most vocal about not being able to police unless it fits their assessment of a manageable time, which now appears to be weekday evenings - presumably includes Fridays?

Be interesting if both Sheffield clubs made it to the PL and Sky wanted the games on at 4pm on Sunday.
