BREAKING - George Hirst Gone

No, not at all because as has been pointed out numerous times since the news broke, the real story isn't really about Hirst, it's about a very wealthy PL club circumventing the rules to avoid paying compensation to a club that has nurtured and developed a young talent.

If we let it go as you suggest, then there is even less likelihood that the football authorities will actually do something to prevent a repeat situation in the future.

It's easy to prevent, don't let player contracts expire & you won't have to deal with this.

Hirst has his head turned by both agents and his dad. First told people ages before this saga even erupted that he would not let his son sign for us if he had anything to do with it. How do you prevent that?

You make them an offer they can't refuse.

The industry standard in football is to sell any player who only has one year left on his contract. Having said that Liverpool lost Emre Can for free & it looks like Arsenal will lose Jack Wilshire the same way. It's a gamble the owners take when they let any contract run down. Daniel Levy, one of the more aggressive DOF's doesn't let any players contract go past the one year mark. It's a decision a club has to make knowing full well they are rolling the dice !! Sometimes you just have to cash out & take your losses because the system has flaws that can play against you.

How does Daniel Levy force people to sign contracts if they don't want to?

Would have made a spiffing fairytale.

Father and son. Number 9's spanning the years.

Down in folklaw.

Eventually into Legend.

But life isn't a fairytale sadly.

The boys gone.

His father probably won't be around as much.

C'est la vie!

How does he force other teams to buy players that they don't want/need?

There is usually a taker when the price is right? Better than a free transfer (+ paid salaries as an expense) anyway.

Usually? Great point. :duntmatter:

Well, let's see yours then, Mr. Negative.

I'm quite sure that most players, who are certain to leave for free in the summer, can be sold for peanuts in January to offload them. Of course we must consider that the players have a good wage/ability ratio, or are willing to take a pay cut to play. Hirst would have gone to Leicester or other clubs for the right price, but the club didn't want to take the money. That blew up in DC's face but he probably learns from such mistakes.
