2 proper wingers and a centre back

All need to go to make way for better players and the young players.

We will need players with pace, sadly lacking all season, and height in midfield, also a change in formation:

3-5-2.

Dust our selves down and look to be positive next season.

And a manager.

Should see us ok next season.

You cannot have the likes of Rhodes, Fletcher & Winnall in the side and put one decent cross a game in.

Exactly .also might see a few goals and be entertained .

I'd add a left back to the list and then I would agree.

And a right back, then make sure Its a manager that plays wingers

As I've said in another thread, it's easier to talk about the players we should keep, rather than who should go.

No way should we sign another player until we have had a proper clear out. The size of our squad means players don't feel part of a ' team' , there doesn't seem to be a great team spirit ( in my opinion) .

Lets start with the ' must stays'

Westwood

Lees

Lee

Bannan

Winnall

Hooper

Rhodes ( because we haven't got a choice, committed to the signing - if we could get our money back or cancel the deal - do it . No slight on Rhodes, it's not his fault it hasn't worked )

I would also suggest keeping Palmer, Wildsmith, Hunt, Reach and Hutchinson - 100% players who, basically, I like!

Oh yeah, and offer Semedo a player/coach role

So basically..

Fox

Sasso

Loovens

Abdi

Joao

Mcmanaman

Buckley

Fletcher

Forestieri

Nuhui (  with a tear in my eye)

Pudil

Mattias

McGugan

Emmanuelson

Wallace

Jones

Can all leave for me, some with a big ' thank you', others with a 'don't let the door hit you on the backside as you go'

Yes, we do.

I agree we are lightweight in midfield, but this is the fault of Carlos, no one else.

He brought in player capable of pressing high, then stopped them pressing high.

I would hate to lost Hutch/Bannan/Lee (especially Lee) but I feel one of the has to go.

I don't disagree, and regarding the recruitment, yes the buck stops with Carlos. My point was though, it might be more effective, and cheaper, to change the way we play, rather than make wholesale changes

But with the players we have, you cannot really change the style of play.

I guess we could go three at the back with 2 wing backs (chelseaesque) but this would still mean needing to bring in at least one centre back if not 2, and players capable of playing the wing back roles.

Some may say Reach would be capable, but I very much doubt the ability Carlos thinks he saw in him.

You then still need a midfield enforcer.

We either need two classic wingers with pace and crossing ability (and for them to be played regularly)

OR

Alternatively, we need a set of forwards used to playing with their backs to goal and specialising in knock-downs.

Personally, I'd much rather have the former but our current problem is having strikers and wide midfielders in the team who don't play together effectively.

We need both.  Its no good playing one particular way.  We've all complained about the lack of plan B this year.  The best sides play a certain way, but when that is not working they change very quickly and fluidly.  You need wide midfielders/wingers, a striker who drops short, a striker who plays on the shoulder, a midfielder who can get beyond, a midfielder who can do the dirty stuff, two full backs who are mobile for 90 minutes and know how to defend when called upon and most of all you need the Manager to recognise when we are becoming bogged down.

There is no one cure.  There is however improving the squad with quality and variety to adapt to different games if our main style of play isn't working.

We don't do "I told you so" on here very well....but I would say 75% of us called for a tall mobile midfielder with legs to get up and down, pace either up front or out wide, better left back ( I think Hunt did enough toward the end to warrant staying).  What that tells me is that if supporters are in agreement over players we are missing from the squad, that is a sign that it is glaringly obvious we are lacking something and should be to the manager.

Im not sure about that Yes, whichever way we decide to go, we will need to add a few missing ingredients. However, just sticking to what we have already, we could play

Westwood

Hunt

Lees

Loovens

Pudil

Hutchinson

Bannan

Lee

Abdi

Forestieri

Hooper

You could, but even looking at that team, there is one ingredient glaringly missing.....

Pace, we have no pace, without pace you become easy to play against.

Not only that, our full backs would be more exposed than they are now when we play 4-4-2, which would be pretty scary.

Agree, but I think even that side would have had more success than most of the sides we've put out. Upgrade 3 or 4 players in that side, and we would have a decent side. You'd have to do a lot more to upgrade the current set up

We certainly need a new centrehalf and to stay clear of the sheer number of injuries we have sustained this season.

its been a shame that Buckley and MacMananam seemed to have been injured or out of favour since they have been here.

Macmanaman would have been ideal last night

I think we're desperate for a quick left back like Jack Hunt. The amount of running he does up and down that right side is phenomenal. He has more than done enough to keep that position for me. We're obviously not going to get him, but a player like Malone at Fulham. He's a constant threat.
