areNOTwhatTHEYseem
Based on what we've seen, would you want us to sign Drenthe on a permanent basis if the opportunity arose in January? Personally, I'd take him if the terms were right for our club. He may not have hit top form yet, but he's certainly shown that he has the ability to add that 'x-factor' which can turn a scrappy draw in to a win or nick a point when we don't deserve it. In terms of building a squad, he offers something which none of our other players can, which can only be a good thing. My main reservation when we signed him was his temperament, but I've heard nothing to suggest he's been anything other than a model pro since he joined us. His recent interview with RS was yet another example of him coming across as a pretty level-headed, down-to-earth chap. (http://audioboom.com/boos/2607133-swfc-midfielder-royston-drenthe) If we were to keep him on loan until the end of the season, we'd have a better chance to assess him, but then so too would the rest of the Championship. If he suddenly hits top form once he's match fit, the chances of us hanging on to him would drastically diminish. I can't take another Ben Marshall scenario! Guest wilyfox
If he's productive over the next two months. He's gotta give us something first.

Mr. Chow
Yup we have no reason to sign him at the moment.
hasthagotanycheese
Needs to make sure he has some impact first...havnt seen anything yet that makes him a "must sign"
mike312
He's got to start some games first and score a couple IMO.
areNOTwhatTHEYseem
Needs to make sure he has some impact first...havnt seen anything yet that makes him a "must sign" I completely agree, but if he becomes a 'must sign', someone else will sign him! That's why I used the phrase 'take a chance'...we're not in a position to sign a sure thing.
mike312
Problem is we can't really afford to take a chance either!
areNOTwhatTHEYseem
Problem is we can't really afford to take a chance either! Goddamn it, you're right! We're damned if we do, damned if we don't on this one, I suppose. Maybe we should just see what we can get out of him for the rest of his loan spell and treat anything else as a bonus. WalthamOwl
He's got to be given a chance before we can really answer.
Dutch McLovin
Without a doubt I'd get it sorted now before someone jumps in and nicks him. Better than anything we have and will only get better with fitness. Anyone who says no is deluded !
Swiss Toni
He's got a lot to do to impress me between now and then. Even if he does the terms need to be right.
WayneTheOwl
What I don't get is why he isn't fit. He should have been fit for the start of the season. Always bugs me that "Not Match Fit" crap.
RobbieOwler
I'm sure as soon as he starts games he's going to do well. Could see his quality against watford. Get him started!
the third man
no point even if he signs he will get the last ten minutes of each game and be expected to perform miracles he wont start because he is not defensive enough to get the 0-0 draws we need to stop up
oneeyedmilkman
I don't think it's in our or Royston's best interests to make it permanent to be honest. We haven't got a pot to wee wee in and we certainly cannot afford his full wages and there's no way if I was Royston I would take a pay cut. I would imagine we'll loan him until the end of the season paying a proportion of his wage (which reading probably know no one else will) which keeps everyone happy

Owlsinmisery
He would need to be given far more time on the pitch and be productive between now and January to warrant a contract. If he doesn't get the game time, then I can't see the point of keeping him.
Swiss Toni
You have to wonder why he never really got in the Reading side. Maybe fitness is his biggest issue?
