Swiss Toni
Kevin Doyle is actually a very good player with his back to goal and also working the flanks. Unfortunately I think the sort of striker we are looking for is someone who does his best work in the box...a finisher basically. I'd take Doyle for sure if he was partnering a goalscorer because his workrate goes without question.
Eaton_Swfc
Fair play, without ratification who do you suggest we can afford that's better? Do you think we already have better? Serious question. Rate Nuhiu above Doyle. & would rather we gave Lavery &/or Madine a chance over him . Doyle had maybe 2good seasons at Reading about 6 years ago. gurujuan
Best would be the centre forward as he's the only one who'd be capable of playing the lone striker role. We'd still need a goalscorer who could play alongside if we decided to play two up
gurujuan
Only just spotted this, Brentford have signed Scott Hogan from Rochdale, they really are splashing the cash Another club ignoring FFP? Does anyone adhere to it?
Corneliusreeve
I don't think it's in Best's interests to move away on a permanent basis either. Season loan, yes, considering he isn't in Bowyer's plans. But he'll probably never earn more than he's on at Blackburn, and that contract still has two years to run; it's the one that sets him up for life. Then you must consider he'd be a hard sell for Blackburn because they paid way over the odds in the first place in terms of fee and wages. Didn't realise he still has 2 years to run on his deal with blackburn-rovers. If so he'd be daft to move from that contract. Has you say a year long loan. lincolnowl
Only clubs with no money hide behind FFP. Like SWFC. Is the recruitnent policy "must be 30+ and be on shitloads/overpaid elsewhere"

Wish we had a player we could either sell for millions or have a big sell on clause on a player. We hardly ever seem to sell anyone!

Does anyone adhere to it? I doubt they paid 750k up front for him. Promotion will have boosted their TV income so provided they manage their wages they may be ok. Their owner may also be prepared to absorb some of the loss this season too if it allows them to stay up. As with all of this stuff, we don't have the exact figures, but, with add on, Brentford will have spent over £3 million on fees as a newly promoted club. When we were promoted, as a much better supported club, and a bottom six wages budget, we could barely find half of that. Now, with two years of championship TV money, paying fees is beyond us. Dagmeister
Wish we had a player we could either sell for millions or have a big sell on clause on a player. We hardly ever seem to sell anyone! That'll only happen through developing younger players and having the gonads to play them. Signing players on their way down isn't likely to produce profitable assets. Signing players on their way down isn't likely to produce profitable assets. Brentford are equally poor at developing their own players but are prepared to speculate on younger players who they can develop and sell on if needs be. Wholeheartedly agree though, there is absolutely zero resale on players who are on their way down

While we were foaming at the mouth anticipating getting ALF, Rotherham meanwhile got Grabben in for a song. Acquiring, polishing and nurturing rough diamonds is something that we've generally been pretty poor at.
The Dukeries Owl
When players leave here they usually retire or go to a lower league club. It tells you everything.
