In this thread I will debunk the 'look like he's trying/gives a fook' theory

I don't think people should base a players interest by their facial expression or body language, but rather by how they apply themselves during the game. Yesterday, our midfield was so lax, it was like a hot knife through butter with the lack of meaningful challenges (Pečnik was the worst for this, as he doesn't get stuck in near enough).

I don't get what you're trying to prove or say Neil. At the end of the day, can all the players honestly say they gave their absolute all in yesterday's game? It's either they didn't or they are simply not good enough.

That will be the easiest game Wolves will play all season.

They should be commanding in their respective position.

This is the problem for me.

It's ok expecting them to command in their 'natural' positions but it's another to expect them to perform in an area they are not 'specialist' in.

Yes, they are all professionals but take Mattock as a case in point, he really struggled against Hudds and at Southampton, he's left footed ya know.

Play him in his natural position like yesterday and he plays better. Still room for improvement mind.

Now times this by 11 and you have a totally different engine.

COG on the left wing FFS!

Easy.

Close down.

Make the opponent play the ball - cut the percentages of a successful pass and put pressure on the player receiving the ball.

This may take effort and energy but shit happens.

Then when you have done that instead of thinking hmm job done, you look at where the space is, fill it and want the ball. Even if the ball doesn't come to you, you never stop looking and finding that space to receive the ball.

Players that cannot be bothered or are low on confidence will happily stand next to their marker and use that as an excuse as to why they cannot get the ball.

I think that it's about space, when you have the ball you pass and move. When the oposition have the ball you close them down, cut down their options, make them rush and make a mistake. That's what I want to see, something that puts the players on the pitch head and shoulders above what I can watch at my local park on a Sunday.

We have to remember that being a footballer at a club doesn't make you a fan of that club, to the majority of players it's a job.

Yesterday Semedo was running around the midfield he was trying to boss it, but he couldn't because he couldn't be everywhere.

It's a difficult thing to quantify, but we know commitment when we see it.
