Nene Park isn't there anymore. Shame cos it was a nice little ground they had.

MK hockey stadium is long gone.

Trying to think of the now-defunct grounds I've been to see games at.

Highbury, National Hockey Stadium, Boleyn Ground, Highfield Road, Griffin Park, The Dell, The Old Den, Underhill, and the old Wembley.

A couple of odd ones: I've been to see Portland Timbers at Providence Park when it was still chiefly a baseball stadium, and I've wandered around inside the Chania National Stadium on Crete, when the now-defunct AO Hania used to play there.

The Old Showground at Scunthorpe.

The second football league ground I ever visited after Hillsborough. It was a venue I’ll always remember dearly.

The Old Showground was the first ground to have a cantilever stand. Commonly thought to be Hillsborough! Ours was the first to run the entire length of the pitch.

Aren't Scunthorpe moving again?

They had big plans a few years back but it’s dead in the water now.

The guy who owns them previously owned Gainsborough Trinity and got himself into a similar situation with big plans of new grounds, neither of which will happen.

Its a shame about Scunny. Geographically they were the nearest football league team to where I spent the first 30 odd years of my life, and along with going to Wednesday with my dad, we’d often go to the OSG and then Glanford Park. We were there the day it opened. Kevin Keegan came out of retirement to make a guest appearance in a friendly match.

Not too many for me:

Filbert St.

Griffin Park

Layer Rd.

Millmoor

Saltergate

Upton Park

Old Wembley

TBF - Others such as Anfield are totally transformed since my last visit.

I move a lot of concrete on the QVC.

Scunthorpe was the first football league ground with a cantilever stand.

But the first cantilever stand in English sport was at Summers Lane home of Finchley Rugby Club. That stand predated Scunthorpe by decades.

The two most important cantilever stands were therefore at Finchley and Hillsborough.

Scunthorpe has absolutely nothing to brag about.

I move a lot of concrete on the QVC.

Probably the greatest world cup game played there in 1982. Brazil V Italy.

Edit.

I got that wrong. IIR, it was played at Espanyol's ground in Barcelona.

I miss the baseball ground

The old Wembley should have never been replaced, been to both the old and new and the old was better by a mile.

When I first went to the old Wembley in ‘91.  My first thought was what a poohole.

I only managed to go there once: the ‘97 Play-off Final with a load of Palace-supporting mates to see the Pigs beaten in the last minute. Stadium was iconic from the outside, an absolute dump on the inside.

It wasnt modern I give you that and I can still smell the ciggerettes

But give me that over the soulless bowls any day, yeah there clean and have nice fancy neon lights but they are bland and boring and I include Pride Park in that

I like old stadiums and theyve started ruining Craven Cottage now as well
