OwlerIT2
Here goes, poorish scores for a win but for 2/3rds of this game we really were poor. Stockdale: 7 Ihiekwe: 7 Heneghan: 6.5 Palmer: 7.5 Hunt: 6 Dele Bash: 6 Vaulks: 6 Bannan: 6 MarvinJ: 6 Patterson: 3.5 Windass: 7.5 Byers: 7.5 Bakinson: 7.5 Gregory: 7.5 Moore: 8 : Great use of the subs today, well done DM but can we start working on trying to play for the full 90 mins
Guest Whittonowl
We achieved three points yesterday. Why the downbeat moaning? There is no way we will ever monopolise 95 minutes. No one can. The intelligent use of the 14 outfield players now allowed should (and can) mean results. Not pretty but necessary. Mr Moore has this on board. Two games a week for the foreseeable future. With the exception of the goalkeepers no player can or will play all the minutes of every game week in week out. We will achieve promotion in an orderly manner!!!! Salute the team- all of them. elyowl1
Owlstalk is not the home of common sense, raise the mob and grab the pitchforks for this decidedly level-headed post. Lol

GMOwl72
Not too sure that there was too much ‘downbeat moaning’ following yesterday. Think majority were of the opinions ‘we played poorly but got the 3 points’. When you play poorly however I think it’s only fair to question why?

sexpistol
I’m baffled by some commenting on Heneghan being poor yesterday. He won just about all his headers and had Stockley in his pocket.

He won just about all his headers and had Stockley in his pocket. He was brought in to do a job which was to win the headers that probably cost us promotion has season. Like Dunkley before him some fans expect someone to win all of the headers and play the ball out of the back line Beckenbaur.
Screen Door Slams
Stockdale - 7 Palmer - 7 Heneghan - 6.5 Ihiekwe - 7 Hunt - 5 Vaulks - 5 Bannan - 5 FDB - 5 Johnson - 5 Paterson - 4 Windass - 7 Gregory - 7.5 Bakinson - 7.5 James - 7 Sow - 6.
Emerson Thome
Better later than never..... Stockdale: 7 - Reassuringly solid. Ihiekwe: 6.5 - Love the way he attacks his headers, bit shaky on the ball. Heneghan: 6 - Same as Ihiekwe but more extreme; brilliant in the air, poor on the ball. Bit worrying the way Blackett-Taylor waltzed past him. Palmer: 7.5 - Really put in a shift against the dangerous Blackett-Taylor and made that vital clearance. Hunt: 6 - Under-utilised. Johnson: 6 - Still trying to locate his mojo. Vaulks: 6.5 - A couple of better passes, but seems a couple of rungs below Luongo in quality. Dele-Bashiru: 6 - Needs to show for the ball more if he is going to play there. Bannan: 6 - Too far forward. Spent most of the match scampering to little effect. Windass: 7.5 - Quality cross for the goal and his movement was generally excellent on a hot day. Paterson: 5 - Really struggled, didn't even compete for many headers. Byers: 7.5 - Immediately we looked much better when he came on. Bakinson: 8 - MoM. Looks a quality player, does a bit of everything and gets extra half point for thumping header. Gregory: 7 - Everything started to stick when he came on. Sow: 7 - A couple of dangerous moments. James: 7 - Helped us see out the game. Awful first half. Charlton were one of the worst teams to visit Hillsborough last season, so was surprising how well they played. We were lacking quality on the ball and Bannan hardly involved. Not sure if it was an intentional tactic, but we seemed to play rope-a-dope - Charlton pressed us so hard that they tired quickly and we were the stronger team in the second. Every sub improved us, whereas theirs had little impact. So the goal did feel like it was coming, but only after 57 minutes of dross.
