I dont know what having 'Thank You NHS' on the front of the shirt achieves apart from virtue signalling.

Doesn't buy 1 ventilator, mask or bandage.

Would have been better to have it sponsored by a company and giving the money to an NHS charity.

There is so much focus on the NHS they are doing a good job under difficult circumstances. But there are many many other people keeping this country running from the supermarket staff, to the delivery drivers, to the armed forces.

 

I just wish we said Thank you to the all - some of the things supermarket staff are having to deal with on a daily basis is disgusting. These people are not on millions of pounds a year like the footballer many of them are barely above minimum wage.

 

And though people wont remember them the job, the government are doing to stop many millions of people being made redundant, they are putting money in everyone pocket and propping up many business that other countries are doing very little towards, the daily battle they have to keep the hospitals stocked when everyone in the world is trying to get the same item it has been tight but those that need it have not gone without. Everyone is making a great effort and all should be honour or at the very least given more gratitude that currently they are getting.

The same government ministers who voted to stop NHS staff from getting a pay rise and then cheered about it . Get stuffed they deserve a bloody pay cut but sadly when this is over they will ensure that the poorest in society suffer with their austerity cuts. IF we want to honour the NHS staff and all the other badly paid front line staff then they should be honoured by big pay rises.

There are some valid criticisms of the Government's response, especially in the earliest stages, but you highlight an important point. It's easy for the rancid British media to be constantly sneering, stating the obvious, repeating the same questions, trying to force their own agendas on the situation and being generally obnoxious (often whilst demonstrating no greater insight than the first randomer you might come across in the street), but if you think about it, they are dealing with a gargantuan undertaking on dozens of different fronts at once. And in doing so, they are often fumbling in the dark as this is such a new state of affairs in terms of the economy, public health, commerce, transport etc. 

 

But in the final analysis. Conservatism is always about favouring those who have over those that don't; often quite callously (not that the other parties are that much better). In the fullness of time, things will go back to normal in that regard I'm sure.

I don't disagree they look after themselves and in normal times we would probably be better off without them.

 

But in time of need you see 1 or 2 that stand up and actually earn their money. From everyone I know who are now still getting paid where their company would probably have folded without the government schemes support and loans they will at least in the short term be extremely grateful.

 

The pain of course comes when we have to pay for this and mostly likely it will be in the form of an income tax rises that will affect those on less than those on more.

Morrisons are giving 10% discount to the NHS workers too. You can get a cheap lease deal on a car if you work for the NHS through their lease scheme. Not seen any discounts for transport workers, bin men/women, care home workers, post men/women or the military. Will we see a discount price band for NHS workers on season tickets next?
