It depends what's in the contract. I negotiate freelance contracts for professional services for people we hire for projects in our business.

All of them, because of the nature of our business, accept fixed term contracts without the right for them to terminate early, although we can. The idea is that their services are non-subsitutable.

In the position that's most analagous to the manager, there is a quid pro quo (because there are few jobs at that level), which is that if we terminate early, we pay the contract up. But the contractor is committed for the length of the contract.

Accept you can sue for breach of contract not for disruption to our pre season

Yeah, he won't be legally liable for that.

In fact, we don't have to talk hypotheticals here. Bruce purported to resign from Palace, they refused and put him on gardening leave. I don't doubt that Chansiri would be at least that robust.

Weird how we've all memory-holed his strong support for Ched Evans.

Genuinely, I’d totally forgot about that (rather than put it to one side)

At the time (SB commented, which I think was before the retrial) I thought his comments (I know the lad, I’ve read about the case, I can’t see how he got found guilty and the other one didn’t ... which basically means he drinks Chardonnay with the millionaire father in law in Knutsford) were pretty poor

aha here it is ...

Genuinely don't mean to reopen a can of worms on the subject itself. But Bruce got pelters on here at the time and not a squeak about it when we appointed hmi.

I wasn’t aware of that either.

Yep, I'm not accusing anyone of bad faith, it's just another example of "a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest".

I think that’s probably due to a) Bundy secured (cough) acquittal, and b) the timespan involved (four years).

But you’re right, I think it’s an interesting insight

If he really loved the club, he would have never taken Sunderland.  But business is business, even when "boyhood club" calls.

That is wrong my grandfather was from that neck of the woods and went to both Newcastle and Sunderland games. It was quite common for individuals to go to both United and Wednesday up until around 2000. Then swifching of games by TV kicked in and prevented the practice. This intense hatred of teams has been fuelled in last 20 years and personally think it is detriment of game. Its good to take rise out of rivals but now seems to be taken too far.

Ched Evans was acquitted in the end though wasn’t he?

Going to tread carefully and note that I said I didn't want to get into the subject itself, and also that Bruce's comments were made when the conviction stood.

He regretted turning them

down last time. He’ll be thinking that this is his last chance.

Well like many my real issue is the fact DC was incredibly generous in allowing him to defer his start date. So I was brought up if someone treats you like that you reciprocate, not really a definition of loyalty i know let's call it good manners

DC didn't allow him to delay his start date that's rewriting history

DC offered him the job Bruce said he was interested but wasn't available until Feb and DC decided to wait for him to come available We as a club could just as easily said nope we need a manager now so we'll look elsewhere

Ok fair comment in that context

OJ Simpson also got acquitted!

Having sent millions of pounds of his legal team and with them having used the unprecedented approach of bringing the alleged victims past into account in a rape trial.

In that sense I suppose Bruce was right, I can't recall knowing of Bruce's comments at the time but in the comments on the previous page relating to the original trial it refers to him saying he couldn't believe how Evans got found guilty when the other lad didn't.

Might have had something to do with the fact that the lass went back to the hotel knowingly with the other lad and then Evans snuck in later and left via the fire escape.
