Dropped last week for reasons on the training ground .

Seems to be a theme and it is not helping us on the pitch is it.

The approach to our outspoken/strong characters is to drop them if they don't tow the line. In isolation this approach might work - show them who is boss and eradicate the trouble causers.

However, we have too many prominent players sitting out long term or from one week to the next due to non-footballing reasons, many of which were previously key to our success and not seen as trouble causers under previous regimes. For whatever reason the approach is doing more harm than good at the moment.

He could have got a minor injury that made it not worth the risk. We don't know.

Why put him on the bench then? Sorry but a lot of his decisions don't make much sense. Thorniley has been fairly consistent this season other than when played out of position at Brentford yet he got dropped recently as well, but appeared from the bench when other defenders were available so not due to fitness.

They might not be fit enough for 90 minutes for some reason?

But if one of our defenders had got injured in the first 10 minutes of last weeks game then Thorniley or Hector would have been brought on surely? Not fit enough for 90 minutes but would have played 80 if required.

3 at the back one week, 5 the next, 4 previously, more centre-back pairings than any other team in the division during his time, picked the same team once in nearly 40 games.

No consistency of selection or formation = no consistency on the field = poor results = worst stats across all defensive indicators in the division.

I don't think we have enough players to be choosy as to who fills the 18 matchday squad.

We don't but if they are not fit enough to play then generally they don't make the squad, as per Forestieiri yesterday. He hasn't had a problem with filling the bench purely with kids up to now so it seems feasible that players like Thorniley and Hector have been on the bench due to selection choices.

The fact he has picked the same side only once in 10 months tells its own story. Yes we have had injuries but not to the extent where he has been unable to settle on a preferred team or a least a formation which gives the whole squad some sort of consistency of approach.
