Should Hector and Onomah start v Stoke?

Recommended Posts

Our best team for the next three games, imho, is...

----------------------- Westwood ------------------------
--------------- Hector -- Lees -- Thorniley ------------
Pelupessy ------------ Bannan -------------- Penney
-------------- Matias --- Onomah --- Reach ---------
--------------------------- Joao ----------------------------

Can't break Thorniley/Penney up. Thorniley is more a LB than a CB. Change a winning team - why?

Penney not as good as Thorniley in the air. As you say Thorniley can play Left Back aswell. He wants to start Hector it makes sense.

Personally I think it will be same as Reading but if there is a change this will be it I feel.

Only other potential one is Onomah in midfield and Reach in place of Matias.

Is that Pelupessy at right wingback.

Two questions.

Would you start either player, and replacing whom?

Will Jos start either, and replacing whom?

My view:-

Definitely not Josh. The midfield three are winning and settled, so no immediate opening there for Josh. Matias has done enough to keep his place, and Joao is undroppable.

More of a question at CB. I’m not 100% convinced by Thorniley yet, and Hector feels like just what we needed with his size and experience, but no, I would not break up the Palmer-Lees-Thorniley-Penney back four at present.

A few weeks ago these newcomers would have walked into our badly struggling side, but not now. It’s brilliant that they are going to have to force their way in, and play like demons to stay there.

We play...

Saturday Stoke

Wednesday Forest

Saturday Villa

I would be very surprised to see Matias and Joao start all three. They have had a fortnight off but I see a degree of sensible rotation from Jos. This gives an early chance for Onomah to impress.

Not sure Jos will rotate in defence unless we get injuries. I suppose at 21 it’s possible he will give Jordan a rest and take a look at Hector, but I really think he might have to wait for an injury or a poor performance.

Wonderful that it has become a genuinely difficult dilemma rather than an urgent emergency.

For me no. Both have been away on Internationals this week so haven’t got to know teammates yet. Both on bench then start them in midweek when we will be rotating a little.

Absolute madness! We’ve been crap with a back three, Bannan is better going forward and Pelupessy on the wing is laughable. No offense...

My opinion is start Onomah along side Bannan and Hector on the bench. Unlike the OP I believe thornley is class and if Gector was to come in it would be for lees.

i think jos will have them both on the bench.

So you are dropping Lees and Pelupessy then.

While I do like the back 3 this set up is all wrong in my opinion.

Firstly Westwood in net ?! No we've dond this to death Dawson is our keeper and is good.

Pessy at wingback is a shout I'll give you that.

we need 2 cm ala how Chelsea won the title with it. One has to be Bannan so if Hutch is in the back 3 then Onomah has to sit with him. This is how I see Onomah to be honest from what I've seen of him.

the front 3 all need goals. Reach doesn't score enough to play that role. And can only play wingback in this aystwm and you can't not play Penney

Goodbye super Barry Bannan performances.

I will really miss you.

:duntmatter:

Barry Bannan was super in CC first year and if played correctly as he is now will continue to be.

Im not a Pessy boo boy I think he's decent but that's it decent. His biggest asset is his stamina which comes to the front at the end of games. I think I'm either Hutch or Onomah now we have better options.

Remember back who played cm when we whipped arsenal ? Bannan and Hutch !
