Good player. I'd have welcomed our interest in him a couple of years ago, but doesn't sound the force he once was.

Also in the last 4 seasons in the league he has played 14,9,15 and 17 games.

You sure?

Transfermarkt has the following:-

14/15  21 PL and 18 Championship

15/16  21 PL

16/17 23 Championship

Looks like 16/17 was the only season he had a long injury. Muscle fibres, whatever they are?

The man has been class, and given that he scored 6 in 23 for Norwich and played 90 minutes every game when fit suggests he still has what it takes.

After two failed attempts

I would expect Carlos to have learned his blueprint for taking players who have gone off the boil, Mcmanaman, Buckley hasn't really worked

Got to bring in tried and tested players to replace current aging first teamers

No room for error this time,

These players have failed twice

Bringing in players to sit on the bench won't be tolerated this time

On the flipside Bannan and Hooper weren't doing much at their clubs.

Was just going to say the same. Similar could be said for Fletcher at Sunderland and Wallace at Burnley too. Would be happy with Dorrans if intended to replace Abdi. It's not worked for him here. Still want a pacey winger though, wherever Carlos might deploy Dorrans - if it happens.

True

But for every success story, there's a failure too

In my opinion, last year we improved the squad

This year we must improve the team

I once used Wiki to look up details of a player, cant remember which player, and it claimed he was 100 feet tall.

We will get an idea of what to expect when the players return to training

If we sign any of the 6 out of contract players, then I fear we will fail

We should be looking at replacing players like Semedo and Sasso with players who will force their way into the team

The old rule applies, you're only as good as your weakest link

I love Semedo and hope we keep him on the staff, but not as a player, we need much better to move forward as a club

Given a run, Sasso can provide just what we need at the back.

Dorrans' six goals last season suggests he still has something. But if he's keen on a return to Rangers that suggests to me he's looking at the run in in his career now and to tick that box. Others like Hooper, Bannan, Fletcher have come here with points to prove.

I think he would probably fit into our patient style quite well but it just seems like another player with similar attributes to everyone else we've signed or tried to sign, such as Mark Davies. We need to break the mould (or have the option to) so I'd be a bit frustrated if it looked like we weren't learning our lesson and adding some intensity/physicality into midfield.

Having said that, this is the Daily Mail, presumably Dorrans will be Pardew's first signing here.
