Fans backing team = win

Recommended Posts

The support was amazing today and how the team responded. We were for one of the few times this season All Wednesday. No negativity = just willing the team on. And what a performance.

8 more games like that please.

Newcastle let us play, and when we play the crowd responds. It's one Iberian against another in this fixture, like an Englishman playing a Scotsman. Benitez/Bennett plays a brand of football Carlos understands. If we could play teams with that approach every week we'd get promoted no problem. The rub is that when Colinho comes here next Friday his approach will be radically different. He'll come to frustrate, which will in turn frustrate the crowd. Ditto McCarthy at Ipswich.

In many ways this match today encapsulates so many things. So if Wednesday and Newcastle play in a similar manner, how come Newcastle are going up automatically? Because their players are better all round. They're good at more things, so when they come up against the likes of Warnock/Colin they can find other ways to win. This is why Carlos is probably the wrong man for us. Were he at Newcastle, he'd get them up no problem. We needed a manager who's good at pragmatic football, not having the parachute cash to buy better all-round players.

OK, we never beat Derby, irrespective of the manager. If Brazil's players pulled on Wednesday shirts we'd probably not beat them. But we'll miss out because of results against Cardiff and Ipswich, and it's Carlos' inability to deal with that type of football which will costs us.

Absolutely.

If we want any chance of success the crowd need to be behind the boys from the first minute....

That's what I like about Owlstalk, performance of the season rewarded with absolute unquestioning positivity!

Guest The Horse

Hours of lubrication pre-match with a lie-in tomorrow works wonders too.
But seriously - that atmosphere was amazing tonight.
Didn't hear the geordies at all.

But then we got it forward and put passes in !

Why couldn't we do that in any other game this season ?

Some possible answers...

Newcastle didn't play with 9 or more defenders reluctant to cross the half way line.

Pudil had a great game. I've been very critical of him: thought we'd seen the last of him. Maybe he has been carrying an injury all season.

Hooper plays the link up role better than anyone else at the club. We've missed him badly, as he gives Bannan, Jones, Wallace a different option.

Reach settled in slowly. Getting better by the game. Quality player: earlier in season, a bit meh.

Team playing well = fan's support...

Well, whoever would have thought of that ?

Shock, horror..

I think the OP was getting at the fact the fans turned up from minute 1 rather than waiting for something to happen.

Get behind the team from the off and they will do the business. Expecting it to be like a library again against Cardiff though...
