modboy
People need to read the opening post properly. I'm not criticising Hutch, it's his shoed in role that is killing us at the moment

Binky Griptite
Weren't we crying for Hutch back in midfield at the beginning of the season when he was picking up MotM award after MotM award at CB? The solution is two Hutchs, one could then break up play much further up the field... or alternatively just get Lees back fit and play the team that was making decent headway up the table prior to his injury. wattowl
Yep this is totally correct iv been saying it in different posts for the last month.it was no coincidence last season that we we played our best football when bannan lee or lopez were in the middle. So we can either do two things.play abdi and bannan and go 44 2 with hutch instead of sasso or we play higher up with wingbacks. And play mcmanaman and reach as wingbacks. Then the full backs play high up the pitch. With fessi then in the hole we can still play two up front. Leeds played 1 up front as do most teams. Why do we need 4 at the back. Norwich and Burton will play one up front, and we will have 5 defenders and one midfielder, who will then get it in the neck for losing the midfield battle and passing backwards. At home it should be Abdi-Bannan. Edited February 26, 2017 by Holmowl
blueandwhitematt
People have alluded to it already, but Hutch's job is to drop into a back 3 and allow the full-backs to get as high up the pitch as possible. Its not overly effective without Lee and with our full-backs though. Assuming Carlos is still here come August, we either need to go with a 3-man midfield (as suggested), or if we're going to stick with this system then invest in some seriously quality full-backs in the summer. That isn't a slight on Fox or Hunt (think they are pretty reasonable squad players) but if we're going to have our full backs be the wingers too, then we need the best there is at this level. Night King
Hutch isn't the problem. The problem is the way Carlos is setting the team up to play. The wingers are way to narrow. Our full backs aren't good enough to play as wing backs. Hence the lack of creativity. We need some pace and width. Have done since about March 2016. SiJ
Think Hutch is in the right role, but not in the right system (if that makes sense). Him playing as a holding midfielder/sweeper is fine, but it doesn't work in this 4-4-2 system. He's way too deep and that means his partner is left isolated in the middle third. We are getting outnumbered, not winning second balls etc., If we play say a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 then it would make more sense. wattowl
I Agree so dont play with them. Play mcman and reach as wingers alone side a midfield two.of bannan and abdi. Fessi in hole. And perm two from 4 of our strikers. Let lees loovens and hutch sit deep. Flooding midfield is,the key to get us high up the pitch
Fuzzy logics
Hutch isn't the problem himself. He is a natural defender and playing him in midfield means you need to add depth with attacking midfielders who can carry the play...We don't take advantage of this. Personally I feel his best position would be in a back 3 with Loovens and Lees either side of him.
DobbinTheDonkey
Ben Pearson would be ideal for that holding role, when Hutch moves to centre half. Young, tackles, can pass and has a nasty streak in him.

Let's attack teams instead of playing counter attacking sit deep bore-fests Time for Jones to step up Fwiw You want to replace Hutchinson in midfield with jones? They do the same job & both sit deep. Hutchinson is far superior at doing it though. You know when Hutchinson is in midfield but jones is like the invisible man. the problems are out wide (LB,LM & RB,RM) & defensive tactics.
