TODAY’S OPPOSITES

Are called Brighton and we’ve already played them twice this season, if you want to know about how we come to be playing them today, look in the results section.

Today is special so this MDT intro is all about us.

15 months ago when Mr Chansiri bought our club, he brought an audacious plan with him. He told that plan to Carlos and the team. Tonight, the plan goes into action.

Starting at our magnificent home in Hillsborough, the team will attempt to place a 27 cm diameter sphere into a target measuring 8 by 24 feet. This has been dubbed by Wednesday mission scientists as “Back of Net”. Spurred on by almost 35000 supporters, the team will be thrusted into orbit above Sheffield and begin a journey to the south coast of England.

Once there, a further sphere or two will be placed so that we can take advantage of a gravitational slingshot effect. Out past Jupiter, then it’s back to Sheffield for a nice sit down and a cup of tea before using the power of Hillsborough once more to catapult us south again.

Now comes the tricky part - Carlos will attempt to land a team on the perilous surface of the planet Wembley. To get there involves crossing the asteroid field known as Landan and confronting the hostile eel molesting inhabitants and trying to understand their odd terms of speech. That also means the fans will have to drink bleedin’ Watney’s Red Barrel again, but Nuhiu and the lads will face strange, powerful, unknown opposites armed with dastardly repercussion weapons but subjugate them anyway by placing even more of our spheres in the target.

Completing the mission will bring fantastic rewards. Not only do we get a nice silver cup to take home, we also get millions of pounds and the opportunity to play football in the Premier League.

MATCHDAY FACTS

Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal is set to recall a number of players who were rested for the defeat at Wolves on Saturday. Winger Ross Wallace is back after a three-match ban and striker Atdhe Nuhiu (knee) is fit to play.

Brighton will be without suspended duo Lewis Dunk and Dale Stephens, while veteran striker Bobby Zamora has been ruled out as both legs are missing. Steve Sidwell could replace Stephens, who starts a three-match ban.

After missing out on automatic promotion on the final day after drawing at Middlesbrough, Brighton travel to a sold-out Hillsborough to face a Wednesday side who finished sixth in the table, before hosting the return leg on Monday.

The South Yorkshire side are bidding to return to the Premier League for the first time since suffering relegation in 2000, while Brighton have not played in the top flight since 1982-83.

The Owls were successful in their only previous play-off campaign, winning the League One play-off final in 2004-05 by beating Hartlepool after extra-time. Brighton have lost in the Championship play-off semi-finals twice in the past three seasons, first to rivals Crystal Palace in 2012-13 and then to Derby County in 2013-14.

The Seagulls lost a second-tier play-off final to Notts County in 1990-91 but were successful in their other play-off attempt, in the third tier in 2003-04 when they overcame Bristol City at the Millennium Stadium. Both league meetings between Sheffield Wednesday and Brighton this season finished goalless.

â–ª The last three matches between Sheffield Wednesday and Brighton have ended 0-0.

â–ª Brighton have failed to score in their last five contests with the Owls; Keith Andrews in 2013 was the last Seagulls player to score in this fixture.

â–ª Six of the last 10 teams to finish third in the Championship have gone on to win the play-offs.

â–ª The Owls have lost just one of their last 20 league games at Hillsborough (W12 D7), conceding more than once on just two occasions.

â–ª The Seagulls are unbeaten in their last 14 matches, winning nine and drawing five.

â–ª No Championship player has scored more league goals in 2016 than Sheffield Wednesday's Gary Hooper (11) and Brighton's Tomer Hemed (11).

My prediction: 2 - 0 to us. Then down to their’s to finish them off. Ooooooooh!

KING CARLOS’ WORDS OF WISDOM

“Everything that happened in the past is not important. Now is a new championship, so it is important to talk about us as we are in this moment. We are in the play-offs, in the semi finals. I think the four teams have 25% chance to go to the Premier League and of course in the next game, in the final it will be 50-50. The value of the teams are similar, in our opinion. We are very positive at this moment, very positive. If you remember our big challenge in the Championship was against Cardiff, we went into the play-offs after that game.

The LMA chose us as the best Performance of the Week out of every game. This is good to us and good to the club. We need the fans to do even better and the players will give the answers. At the beginning of the week we had small problem with Nuhiu but now he is completely ready to the game and 100% fit. We are positive, in good shape, we are optimists, we are smiling but at the same time know the responsibilities we have.

We have worked a lot to achieve this moment and it’s a big opportunity to me and my players and we want to grab this opportunity with both hands.”

Hope you have to do two more of these wonderfil threads pauli.

Im going 3-0 with Hooper scoring a peach, a bobble and his first header, from a Hunt or Wallace driven cross.

Cant wait. Setting off for the ground ludicrously early.
