That was a Howard Wilkinson signing. "We've signed a World Cup striker", who turned out to be the dustbinman from Dronfield who had played in the World Cup for New Zealand, when they had a really poor side. He signed Kenny Brannigan at the same time. Two no marks for the price of one.

Mark Platts.  Same agent as Waddler.  Came on for him as a sub whilst still a YTS to become youngest outfield player in history. Made another sub appearance whilst a YTS, Waddler said he had a great future, signed pro and 3 years later released having never ever played again.
