Dunkstar
Think Semedo has had to do the work of 2 men at times and is therefore getting over run. However even last season I noticed a tendency for him to get carried away at times and go ahead of his mid field partner, especially in the closing moments of the 4-4 with Huddersfield. Liera I think is good on he ball but lacking a little defensively. He would suit a back 3 as the spare / non marking man This

Guest foreverSWFC
Semedo was poor against Derby, but has done nothing wrong to allow people to say he's not good enough a this level. 5 games in and people are already criticising. Against Birmingham and Milwall I thought Semedo was excellent and didn't look out of place whatsoever. But personally I'd like to see Barkley and McCabe start against Huddersfield purely because I think they're the better footballers. We may not have he work ethic, bite and experience Semedo offers, but I think these two are more likely to create something. I love Semedo and think he will be valuable for us thi season. But I think DJ likes midfielders who have an all round game, not just specialising in one area, like Semedo who is a superb tackler and ball winner. McCabe and Barkley can both defend and attack, which DJ wants. I you want to be promotion candidates you need to be able to have midfielders who can do both effectively. No distrespect to Semedo but he doesn't fill you with confidence when he has he ball in an attacking area of the pitch.
TheEnchanter
We've been poor yet still managed 7 points... which gives me confidence for the future but we need to turn our performances round starting on wednesday, a win and a draw from the next couple of games would put us nicely back on track. SiJ
How many players do we have on the not good enough list then? Going by mentions on Owlstalk I would go with: Buxton Reda Semedo Antonio JJ Kirkland Llera Gardner Madine Maguire Lines So, apart from that, we are shaping up well... Guest Milan Mandaric - God
Were Semedo and Llera both in the Charlton side when they got relegated from the Championship?
Guest Sniper1
Brighton won the game because of Bridge and Bruno, constant outlets when on the ball and solid defensively. Semedo and McCabe in CM could do what against two quality fullbacks? We are looking and pointing criticism at the wrong players/people. I think we set up wrong last night, we tried to match them and we failed. We didnt have the players to do it last night. Compare our full backs to theirs, thats where we should be looking. Mattock on the wrong side and Beevers at left back. No contest really, thats were the game was won. If Semedo isn't good enough then lets give up now cos we are f'ked. Dagmeister
Llera and Semedo might need time to adjust to a higher level of football. We are conceeding goals so the defensive players will take the hit but Antonio's not been the same player either. Lets give them time. COG seemed to confound many and adjusted to the higher level better than most.... and got dropped.
Hack-Abusi
the only doubt i have of Llera is that he has never played consistently at this level - blackpool sold him without him ever playing a game in the league how old is he now? 32 - for me, probably too old to develop his game - he's good when the ball is chucked in the air at him, or when he's up against slow attackers - but up against pace and intelligence i think he's faltering good at league one level - in fact a fecking collosus and probably captain material - but in the championship - its probably too big a step up for him - and dont get me wrong - i love llera - great goalscoring CB with the ball at his feet - but starting to show signs that he aint good enough for this level
airborne_rat_of_s6
100% with you on liera. With the ball pure class but defensively poor. Watch how many times he looses his man. I have a mate who is a massive Blackpool fan. He laughed when we signed him - said exactly the same thing - great going forward, shame he isn't up to it when he is doing the main job he is there for. Might be a completely arse suggestion, but what about using him as the central holding midfielder as Semi is well off the boil at the moment. Beholder
I loved llera last season and even the start if this. Dunno if the championship is finding him out but I for one would be sad to see him leave the team. He brings so much attacking wise, as does reda. Guess we need to find a way of allowing more attack minded defenders get forward without it costing us.

Jackie Sewell
I get so depressed sometimes on here, the whole squad's not good enough, just glad we don't support Leicester, Charlton, Wolves, Brum etc. We've actually got a good Championship squad with cover in all areas and once we settle in I'm sure players like Semedo, Llera, Antonio, you name them will all make important contributions to the season. Be there Wednesday or Saturday to be uplifted ( was that Alan Partridge ?)

Bluesteel
He still provides a screen in front of central defence although we aren't dominating midfield like we used to. The main issue is the wide areas.
dani_armo
Drop semedo and we'd be fooked. First name on the team sheet for me, when semedo plays well the whole team plays well Playing McCabe and Barkley would be stupid, two kids with about 15 games between em! Guest MrsGoggins
I think they have suffered because we are not defending as a unit, at home we should be going at teams but away i don't think playing both Antonio and JJ will win us many games. One thing i have noticed is that we are no where near as fit as we were last season with many players clearing blowing out of their bums. The side will take time to gel but warning sides are there. Davidioso
Semedo works tirelessly. Makes the odd mistake, but that's because he's involved a lot more than other players. Drop him and you have a MASSIVE hole.
