steviewonder
all of a sudden there's a turd floating in AI's champagne.
latemodelchild
i find it strange that laws and irvine both like the same player. i would have liked to have seen an 'irvine' signing. Maybe Varney is an Irvine signing. Maybe he'll be a revelation under AI. Seems to have worked miracles so far, allbeit in 2 games, but you never know. Dan™
I can see why Irvine would like him though: Hard worker, lots of energy, decent pace, good attitude. He might not have the quality, but his determination makes up for a lot. If he had both he'd be in the Premiership and not at Sheffield Wednesday. Chris E
Reasonably happy with this. He showed flashes of what he can do before. Hopefully we'll see the uplift in his game that we've seen in everyone else. Give him chance.

Irvine has signed him therefore he is an 'irvine' signing. Happy with this, always putting effort in, making space for others and chipping in with goals. Hardly ever injured too, im sure Alan Irvine will get more out of him still.
Guest Owl82
You must remember our whole team was poor before Irvine came in. Now with us playing better and Varney back in the squad. Varney could improve along with the rest of the team and score more.

Guest Walkley_Owl
We have to trust Alan's judgement, we've lost JJ for a spell so he can offer an outlet with pace
senwar
Disappointed to be honest, but see what he's like under the new boss.

bobtheowl
Jeffers. Agreed, stick Jeffers (when fit) in the box with Varney as his runner, and i think he would get a few goals. Although this would/should definitely be Jeffers' LAST chance to prove himself with us IMO.
Guest Walkley_Owl
I like him to be honest but i'm in a minority, he offers us more than goals and can play in a wide role, the deal is right for us obviously so we have six months to decide if he's worth pursuing as a replacement for Sodje/Clarke/Jeffers in the summer
barmyowl1212
I think he is back to add pace up front now JJ is injured. He could be miles better this time round like the rest of he squad has been since AI came in. It also keeps the same players together as a team
oh_weds_we_love_you
Varney knows the club, knows the players and is affordable. I think AI will get more out of Varney than BL did too.

rawsheffield
Bloody Hell...what do some people actually want?!??? Varney has a scoring ratio of 1 in 3 while with us. He knows the club, likes being at the club, wants to be at the club, has a tremendous work ethic and will be playing his heart out for a contract. Honestly...some people on here really haven't got a clue.
Dizzys Dad
I like Luke. He never gives less than 100% and brings energy to the side. I also think he is more suited to playing the role JJ has played under AI, than any of the other strikers.
